Invitation Wording - Alternatives to "Joyfully Invite You to"

Tami, on August 29, 2014 at 12:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hi,

I am ordering wedding invites. The first proof came back, and it currently reads: "Mr. & Mrs. ___ joyfully invite you to the wedding celebration of their daughter _______ to _______"

I asked my dad what he thought of the invite, and he isn't crazy about the word "joyfully". I believe he thinks it is a little too casual. "Cordially" will be a little too formal for our invite style. I've been looking around on Google images, to find an alternative to "joyfully", but I haven't had any luck. Any ideas?

If the ceremony will be in a church or other house of worship, then Suzanne's wording is correct. If the ceremony will take place elsewhere, then this is appropriate:

Mr. and Mrs. ___ request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter ___ to ___.

I like the "pleasure of your company" wording. It's elegant but not stuffy.

    Mine Read:

The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of

    Irish Rose Love

    to

    Mr. Not Irish Rose Love

Edit: I had a catholic mass and a semi formal wedding ... if yours isn't extremely formal but it isn't casual either I would put

    Mr. and Mrs. ______

Request the honor of your company to the wedding of their daughter
