Invisalign

BlueSkies, on November 19, 2015 at 3:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 15

Hello! I recently started Invisalign to straighten my teeth, which have some bad gaps. I'm on a 15 month process but my wedding is in 11 months, so I won't be done with them on my wedding day like I would have wanted.

My question is, has anyone worn them before? Should I take them out on my wedding day? I don't want the plastic to show in pictures, but I know I need to wear them 22 hours a day. Any tips?

I've had mine for 7 months and It really won't make a difference if you didn't wear them that day. You probably won't have to time to brush your teeth and keep taking them off and putting them back on all day. Enjoy your day, Invisalign free Smiley smile

My family and friends that have done invisalign all said they had cheat days where they didn't wear their trays and had no issues. I would just recommend that as soon as you are back in your room for the night and have brushed your teeth, to put them back in right away so they aren't too tight and give you a headache the next day.

Yep, I'd just leave them out that day. I don't think you would notice them in pictures, but I always get lipstick all over mine if I try wearing it when I have them on!

I had invisalign a few years ago. You should be fine to not wear them for the wedding day, they might just be a little bit tight when you put them back in.

Talk to your orthodontist - they'll be able to tell you for sure. My husband has them and was in the middle of the process for our wedding - his orthodontist removed the anchors on his teeth and then he just wore the trays without the anchors for a couple of days and no tray at all on the day of the wedding. All totally fine.

The ortho will probably tell you to wear them for everything except pictures/eating, but as long as you don't make a habit out of it you'll be fine. Be sure your ortho knows your wedding's coming up so they can hopefully have your "aligners" or whatever knobs on the teeth on the side.

Thanks guys!!! I'll take them out for the day then, I'm sure all Hell won't break loose on my teeth in just one day. I'm worried about the attachments showing, but maybe some photo editing will do the trick Smiley winking

I waited until I was in my 40's to straighten my teeth. I wanted braces, because I didn't want to deal with the back and forth with the Invisalign, however, my orthodontist was adamant that I get the Invisalign. So glad I did. If it were me, I'd take it out during the ceremony and pictures only.

I currently have invisalign and am on week 52 of 57. While yes, ideally you should wear them for 22 hours a day you're wedding can certainly be an exception to that! I would recommend wearing the set a little longer leading up to the wedding day to minimize shifting though and probably wear it for a couple extra days afterwards before going to the next set. Also be prepared for your teeth to be a bit sore if you aren't used to having them out for that long. I would recommend having Tylenol on hand to minimize any discomfort.

Following I have a gap in my front teeth I hate it! I want braces, I would prefer invisoline but afraid it won't close the gap so I am also considering veneers 0_o

You can take a cheat day - just make sure that you are back to wearing them the next day. It would be difficult to keep up with the brushing in between any drinking/eating on your wedding day. However, whenever I would wear them and had pictures taken, you could see that I had them on.

Not to worry you but I personally did not have a great experience with Invisalign. When I was younger, I had traditional braces - it worked a little, but I still need braces as my adult teeth came in. I tried Invisalign and it just failed for me. I didn't see a difference whatsoever. A few years ago, I went in for Round 3 of braces. These were called incognito - braces that are behind your teeth, specifically designed for each tooth - these worked like a charm (and it was less time of wearing them compared to the traditional braces and Invisalign). I just wanted to share because just in case you don't get the results you wanted from Invisalign, there are always other options.

I am actually getting these in December to fix a jaw problem but I will be done by the wedding. I will probably wear them for engagement pictures though, I'm not that worried about it!

I have Invisalign. I find them to be quite annoying and my tongue is always toying with the back of the top tray. Fortunately I'll be done February 1st!

You should be fine to leave them out for a good chunk of the day. Maybe wear them while you're getting ready and then take them out just prior to ceremony...then back in just before you go to bed. I left mine out for 7 hours on Halloween because I was hosting a party and didn't feel like hearing my own subtle lisp (and I was drinking a bit).
