Hello! I am recently engaged to my boyfriend of 3 years! I'm obviously new to WW and I'm super excited to start planning. We aren't looking at getting married until Fall of 2018 but I'd like some ideas on a good place to start planning,(maybe with some little things?), and maybe some pros and cons...

@Rebecca ugh that's one of the kind of sucky things, is how trendy they are right now. If you would have asked me 5 years ago if I'd consider a barn wedding I'd have said no way because of how trendy it is. But my FH is big into tractors and is INSISTING his newly fixed up Farmall M is at the wedding. At first I was really against it but my deceased grandparents were hardworking farmers and some of my best childhood memories were riding on tractors with my grandpa so I think it's a great way to honor them and please FH all in oneSmiley winking

ALSO like i mentioned before I'm trying to think of things to make it a "classy rustic" theme, so if you have any ideas let me know!!

He's THAT attached to a tractor? How about just including the tractor in the engagement photos?

My wedding will be in a barn as well, but I swear to all that is holy, if I see a mason jar, I will punt it.

@GymRat oh I've tried. BUT it's literally the only thing he's had an opinion on he is letting me have just about full rein on everything else so I think I can give a little hereSmiley winking

I'm with Gymmie. That seems like a lot of major decisions based on a tractor.

That being said barn weddings can be gorgeous (and expensive). I just don't exactly get the reasoning...

@FutureMrsV - congrats!! Check out Ironstone Ranch in Elizabethtown. I went to a wedding there a few years ago. The barn is gorgeous, and everything is there. Also, so with Celia on this one - no burlap, mason jars or hay. Smiley smile

I do have a few non-barn venues booked marked to look at, and if it comes down to a better price or something that really can't be beat I'm sure he would be fine with it. Just not trying to rock the boat with the only thing he actually requested

Def not a fan of mason jars! I've seen pictures where they use like rose gold sparkle table runners as opposed to burlap, and glitter is SO me. I kind of like the idea of rustic being my FH style and the glitter etc being more me and putting them together

Welcome! I really wanted a barn wedding... Until I started adding up the costs. Renting tables, chairs, linens, glassware, dishes, flatware, lights, heater/fans, coolers for drinks, etc. gets really expensive. Oh, and don't forget the price of renting a nice bathroom for guests (not a porta potty, but a portable restroom trailer since no one wants to go in a stinky box all dressed up). All that plus figuring out that we'd have to do all the decor ourselves and we'd need help setting up/tearing down was enough to make me change my mind!

We're using a historic B&B instead. Almost everything was included so planning has been a breeze!

Ironstone Ranch can be very expensive but is worth a look. I live very close to it.

You could try the Farm at Eagles Ridge (Lancaster), Harvest View Barn at Hershey Farms (also in Etown but on the back roads, very pretty), Brick Gables (Lititz, very pretty), and The Barn at Silverstone (Lancaster). There's a lot of options in Central PA - which is where I'm guessing you're sort of located based on others' suggestions. There's also Moonstone Manor in Etown - they don't have a barn but they do tented weddings that are gorgeous and their grounds are amazing.

I'm having a barn wedding but no typical rustic elements. I'm using mason jars but only because they are cheaper than vases and they will be completely hidden in boxes, no burlap or lace, no wood slices, nothing like that. It's just so overdone these days and I am just not into it.

My venue provides tables, chairs, linens, ceremony site w/ arbor or gazebo, inside bathrooms (real plumbing- yay!), bridal suite, and a ton of their items are available for use for my decor. Try to find a place that includes as much as possible!! Mine has an exclusive catering and rental company that I was required to use, but they are great. I did have to rent china, silverware, water glasses, etc which does add up but so worth it.

One of my coworkers knows the couple who runs the venue - she says they are extremely nice and have been having a blast with it. It's considered kind of expensive for the area but the land is gorgeous, so I'd think they're worth a look! Plus there's probably enough space there to have the tractor maybe at the entrance... and not have to stare at it the whole night Smiley smile
