A lot of ppl use that song. Its about what you guys decide you should walk to. As far as the reception, a variety should be fine.

To be honest unless both people are 100% of a specific ethnicity, then most marriages and relationships are interracial. Just because a skin is a certain color doesnt mean that somewhere in there isnt a mixture. Im white, but I am cherokee indian, russian and a few other things. My fiance is Maltese and German. We may be considered white, but in all aspects.... its interracial.

I played mostly traditional music in the ceremony. At the wedding we let our dj know our background and likes and he took it from there. It was great. Everyone danced the whole time and had a blast. We played mostly older songs that everyone liked. At the end we mixed in a little light current hip hop music once the old folks were tired. I danced to a country song with my father, but Rohan (my husband) and I danced to a R&B and so did he and his mom. I worked out great. I worried about it for no reason. We just had a blast celebrating our marriage.

I agree with Jennifer D. most marriages are interracial. Im australian but part irish scottish french german aboriginal english and some other things as well. My husband is American and german. He is a country boy im more rock and things like michael buble so just sit and discuss what songs you both feel are right for those special moments dont worry about pleasing everyone its for the two of you so see what music is right for both of you

I photograph 25-30 weddings a year and most receptions play a variety of hip-hop, classic R&B, as well as pop and a little bit of rock & country so as far as the reception goes I think anything goes as long as it isn't the chicken dance or macerana :-)

Although 'At Last' (Etta James version) is a popular song at weddings, it might be very cool to walk down the aisle to it and no doubt both sides of the family will love it!

I have to agree with most of these comments. You really should go with what you like. My wife and I walked in to "All you need is love" because we love the Beatles, and loved the version by Dana Fuchs and Jim Sturgess that we used. If you try and please all of your guests the one thing you can be sure of is you won't be please in the end. Keep your guests in mind, but it is your wedding. I hope this helps.

FH and I are an interracial couple.. he really likes Dru Hill's Beauty is her name. I cant really get into it tho.. Then again we always come back to Jagged Edge's White Dress, LOL. I've never heard of this Jaime Foxx song, when i get out of work I will go home & give it a listen Smiley smile For us, thankfully, we like mostly the same music...i really dont like country and wouldnt want it anywhere near my wedding, he only likes specific bands of country, like Big & Rich..but its not someting he'd want at the wedding. He really loves 80's and some rock..and i love disco, rock and pop. Lets face it, if you want to be a music nazi on your wedding day, go ahead, but it seems like DJ's kinda know what ppl generally like to dance to, & a wedding reception is just that, time for dancing and fun and getting loose! I LOVE disco i think theres probably nothing better than some Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Luther, Anita Baker (OMG I LOVE HER) or Donna Summer! I cant wait to boogie & I have no rhythm!!

Just play/use what you guys like, it's your guys' day and no one elses. Just because I wasn't a fan of a song a couple choose for their wedding, I didn't freak out or leave or anything. Although I see your point on what your family likes, my dad was dead set on us having a band, I hate bands, I like original music by the original artists, so I asked my dad, "what did you and mom have for your wedding?" he replies "A band" I said "There you go, you had a band, me and my FH like dj's, so thats what we're having, even if we liked a band, we couldn't afford it" all in all just say that the day is about what you and your FH like, and you will choose what ever music for what ever portion of the wedding, although, I don't recommend being 100% in control of the reception music after the dances where you choose your song, you want a variety to please all guests, but for your special songs that you pick, pick what YOU like!

Just play what you like, agree on (and won't offend anyone's MIL LOL).

my brother's wife is white, and at their wedding they played a little bit of everything. Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a blast.

They DID play some music that some people didn't enjoy, but that was related to age differences, not race.

We are playing a little bit of everything and the really heavy hip hop, rock, alternative, and rap will get played towards the end of the reception when the old people leave. FH and I enjoy all kinds of music (except for country) and at the wedding we are getting our friend to play cello during the ceremony, so mostly traditonal music then. One good way to sneak in some non-traditional music into the ceremony with out alarming the old folks is to use just the instrumental versions of the song, that way the words will not offend anyone and you still get the music you love, even better if you can find a orchestra quartet to play the hip hop or country!
