Interactive wedding day app?

Melissa, on January 17, 2018 at 12:14 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
Does anyone know of an app that I could have my bridal party download for the day of the wedding that lets them keep track of where they are supposed to be and what they are doing?

No. If you have a day of coordinator, they should shuffle the bridal party along to wherever they’re supposed to be. All they really need to do is walk down the aisle and regroup after the cocktail hour if you’re having a grand entrance. An app for that is entirely unnecessary. What is it exactly you need them to do that is so complex it requires an app?

Why would they need an app? Tell them the time they need to be there and the venue or day of coordinator can make sure things happen as they are supposed to.

I think a piece of paper or a note in their phone with the timeline would suffice.

How many things are there for them to be at, really?

I was hoping to give them an electronic schedule of the night before and the morning of the wedding that they can’t lose. Since everyone has their phone all the time, I was hoping there might be an app that they can see when they are scheduled for hair and makeup, when to arrive for girls photos, when the guys need to arrive for their photos etc. so mostly stuff before the wedding to use as a resource.

“Hi Amber! Hair and makeup starts at 10 AM because we’re taking pictures at 2 PM.”
“Hi Joe! Pictures are at 2 PM.” I think a text would suffice. Assuming these people are adults, it’s not that hard to be on time somewhere. Are you getting ready with your girls before pictures? And is your FH hanging out with the guys before pictures?

Yep, just let them know the times they need to be and where. Adults should be able to plan for and remember important things they have on their schedule Smiley smile

Hi Melissa! As a bride and bridesmaid, I've always just shared the wedding weekend timeline over email for everyone to reference.

My friends and I do frequently use GroupMe as a group chatting feature for the wedding weekend for all those little updates!

If there was an app.. I wouldn't use it. Why make the bridal party download an app. Just start a group text, or send out schedules to everyone.

Text/group message/paper schedule/email or something along those lines would suffice. An app seems unnecessary when the previous options will garner the same results.

Wow, I thought this was a really good question, OP! I can see an app being really helpful for my dd who is a bridesmaid in her sister's wedding. I think if you have any people with ADD or something similar, this could be very helpful. And I love that it is not a piece of paper to lose.

That said, if there's not an app, how about using Google Docs, and sharing the Document of the timeline, so they can pull it up on their phones easily.

I can see that there is a time for hair, for makeup, to be in a location for photos, to be ready to walk down the aisle, etc... Yes, a coordinator can do this, but having this in a phone could be helpful.

What do people do with their phones during the ceremony, BTW?

Do they just leave them in whatever room they get ready in?

That's actually an interesting idea, but I don't know of anything like that either. I know you can share documents in Google drive that they can edit or add to, but that's a pain in the rear on mobile.

I have a group going on Facebook Messenger to communicate to all my ladies at once. It's linked to a private page I have for them (I used it to post colors and color swatches when we went dress shopping. It's a nice go-to when they need to reference something). You can place a poll on there and post your timeline and anything else you need. Remember to set it as a private group or you'll get random people trying to join.

I like this idea as well. I don't know of anything, but it would be good to have. I am a very tech savvy bride (I am an IT Advisor - IRL), so things like this excite me! I created an excel with time/end times, duration, and the who needs to be there, any special notes and saved it to Google drive. I mainly needed it for my photographer, but I am 3 months out and I've already sent it to the bridal party. No excuses. LOL! I guess I should share it with my coordinator. Smiley tongue
