Insulin pump day of wedding

Al, on April 25, 2017 at 9:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hello! Any type 1 diabetics using an insulin pump on here? How are you wearing your pump on your wedding day? Usually when I wear a dress I tuck the pump in my underwear or a garter kind of thing, but what I have won't work for hours of dancing/sweating/moving around. Suggestions for something that's comfortable but not hideous? I'm having cups sewn in my dress so I can't attach to a bra.

I've heard of a lot of brides having a pocket added to their dress for a pump. Have you talked to a seamstress about alterations yet? They may have some great ideas, too!

Hmm I'm not sure... The skirt area is a few layers of chiffon so idk if having the pump in the pocket would create a bulge. I was hoping for something to put on my leg or waist since the skirt is flowy enough it shouldn't show. Maybe I'll ask the seamstress. Thanks!

My fiancé has an insulin pump too. That is a tricky questions since you will need access to it at some point. Could you get a little piece of material sewn into your dress to hook it to? or maybe a little pocket added to the inside?

It sounds kind of dumb but I'm also worried about it flopping around while I dance if I do the pocket on the inside haha. Maybe I need to search "garter with pocket" because when I type in insulin pump all the stuff that comes up is ugly

Get a pocket placed in the inner skirt you way have to bring extra supplies with you though if it comes undone. Another option is talking to the doc about going on coverage insulin for your wedding day.

@svetlana I don't want to go off the pump for the day, with all the stress and crazy schedule it will be too hard for me to control my blood sugar and I'll end up miserable. I think I found a pocket garter, I just have to make sure the size works

I'm a type 1! I know of a few brides in the diabetic online community who had a pocket sewn in for their pump. I plan on using a garter. My endo also said if I wanted I could go pump free for 24 hours and do shots for the day. Another option I've seen is to wear spanks and clip it to those. I did that on Easter and it stayed pretty stable.

@emily l do you have any suggestions for the garter? I currently use one without a pocket that's right enough to keep the pump against my leg, but I've I'm moving a lot of sweating it will fall off. I think I'll just have to try a few from Amazon and see if the pockets are big enough..

For your pocket garter, contact a etsty seller directly. I bet they'll be happy to customize something for you

I don't know much about insulin pumps, and this might sound really weird but...

Would it fit into a gun holster that could be secured around your thigh? Are there any similar ideas for insulin pumps?

I was going to suggest searching on Etsy! But Erin beat me to it! I crochet so I was going to get a garter and crochet a pocket and sew it together.

If you're any good with stitching, you could get a wide garter belt that sits on your hips and stitch on a pouch that clomes. Granted, this wouldn't work with a more fitted dress like mermaid. Then depending on where your pump site is, you can lace the tubing up along the ribbon connecting to your stockings or thigh garter to protect it from snagging while you get your groove on.

Additionally, if you do want to go thigh garter, you could just use the hip belt to keep them up so your pump doesn't weigh it down and risk slipping and pulling. Just make sure you get the kind with both front and back clips to secure it.

Is your dress flowy? A special garter is the first thing that came to mind but it may be too heavy? If your dress IS flowy, could you attach it to the waistband of your underwear or something of the sorts?
