Instead of a unity candle.....

So FH and I were trying to think of one that meant something to us and would be special and the closest heritage tradition would be hand fasting but he didn't like that idea. Right now we don't have a unity thing in our ceremony. I'd like one but his thought is that we've already been living together for 2 years and have done most of the family blending too so why have a thing in the ceremony. Anyone elses FH say the same?

I like the idea of the cord of three strands...i just wish the cords were burgundy, gold & white...

Wowjunkie...thank you so much! I had never heard of the hourglass ceremony. I was planning on doing the unity sand, but couldn't find a container that I really liked and wanted to display in my home for years, but the hourglass is perfect and beautiful. I am sold on it. I was married almost three years ago, but since then I have attended so many weddings I am a ceramic artist and started making my own salt covenants for brides and grooms as gifts. Because they went over so well with the couples, I was asked to start making them for other people. Now people I don't know are using them in their ceremonies. I am very honored by this. I have been yelled at by another board for posting my ceramics. But truly, I am only sharing because I really think they are so meaningful and can be seen and used everyday. The couples that have them keep them on their stove and using them for daily cooking, and when they empty the couples refill them together. It's just a really wonderful reminder. Even if you don't want mine, the list of reasons for salt in a marriage is a great start for part of the ceremony

I like the idea of a unity hourglass. Turning it every year to strengthen the bond is nice. Now... I just have to find a DIY hourglass for relatively cheap... any ideas?

Im thinking of doing the tree/plant planting, anyone have more tips/ideas on this?

The most wonderful thing I seen was when I went to a wedding of a friend of mine, they decided to wash each other's feet. It was different than what I have seen but to see them doing it and knowing that it was their way of uniting their selves with Christ, I must say it was awesome.

What kind of tree would one use for the tree unity ceremony. I LOVE this idea.

We did sand...1 color for my husband, 1 for me and 1 for our daughter to symbolize our families all joining. She felt so special being part of the wedding other than just my jr bridesmaid.
