Inside and outside envelopes?

FutureMrsB (Aussie Bride!), on September 30, 2011 at 4:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi everyone,

So I'm doing my guest list on the WW function and it has "inside envelope" and "outside envelope" - what does that mean? Eeeek....

Basically, the outer envelope is the "normal" envelope that gets the stamp and the addresses on it. That's the one that will probably get a little beat up during shipment. The inner envelope goes inside the outer one and holds everything else (invitation, response card, reception card..) and only has the invitee's name on it, no addresses or anything. It also does not get sealed. Here is a link that I've been using for reference:

Hmm i see. So you couldn't write 'The Jones Family' on a normal envelope, that would have to go on an inner one?

Also, is it really that rude to not send an individual invite to children over 18 still at home? It seems a bit of a waste of money...

Yeah apparently it's not "correct" to write "The Jones Family" on either envelope. It just depends on how closely you want to stick to tradition. I know I'm definitely going to break a few rules but I haven't decided on this one yet. The "right" way would be:

    Outer envelope:

    Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones

    123 Sesame Street

    Pleasantville, FL 12345

    Inner envelope:

    Mr. and Mrs Jones

    Johnny, Anna, Brian

As far as sending individual invites to children over 18, that is a rule I will be breaking. It doesn't seem worth it to me. The only time I will do that is if one of those "children" has a serious boyfriend/girlfriend or is engaged and therefore I am allowing them to bring a date. Otherwise they will be included on their parents invitation.

Honestly, I think that the rules should be used more as guidelines. I plan on using them as a tool and then figuring out "my" way of doing things as I go along.

There is often confusion over what the inside and outside envelope are..............All I understand is.............the invitation is inserted into the inside envelope. …................The inside envelope is then inserted into the outside envelope..............................so you have an invitation contained within two layers of envelopes.............

Outside envelop usually had only the name and address of the guest................All children and unnamed Guests were listed on the inside envelope...........Like

    the outside envelope might say:

    Mr. and Mrs___________

    Address:_________

and the inside envelope would say:

    Mr. and Mrs. __________

    And their three children
