I got married last month. My father in law and mother in law’s 30th wedding anniversary was in July and my FIL bought my MIL a diamond ring. We we are struggling because they graciously donated to our wedding and we don’t want to seem ungrateful but also don’t want to enable spending behaviors like this.

Thank you for this. They are well off, but perhaps don’t manage their spending well. I’m not sure how they manage their money though to be quite honest. My FIL works in finance and accounting so it would baffle me if he didn’t know how to manage his money.

I would give them back the money they donated for the wedding, and let them know in the future loans are only for needs not wants
