So, I always knew exactly what type of ring I wanted. When it came time to look for rings, he guessed perfectly. The only problem was that we couldn't find it anywhere. Long story short, we used a website where you post a project, and people, in this case jewelrs bid on it. We ended up choosing...

So, I always knew exactly what type of ring I wanted. When it came time to look for rings, he guessed perfectly. The only problem was that we couldn't find it anywhere. Long story short, we used a website where you post a project, and people, in this case jewelrs bid on it. We ended up choosing someone local to do it cause I liked that she would meet with us to be sure the design, stone, etc. was exactly what I wanted. There were lots of back and forth pictures, emails etc. I research everything tons before choosing her and felt really good about it. At the last minute, instead of completing the transaction through the website - which would have guaranteed our satisfaction, she said that she has to pay them comission, so we just paid her directly.

I was sooooo excited of finally having this beautiful ring.

....fast forward to the night he proposes with the ring finally in hand and...

You all are right, we will not be giving her any more of our business. Now I will see if there is anything she will do to either pay to fix the ring, or buy the ring back. She mentioned her mother loved the ring, so maybe she can give it to her? Smiley smile

I picked my own ring if I am wearing it forever I want to like it period. I have let him pick his own too. With that said if the ring isn't right it needs to be fixed and no I wouldn't use her for the bands and I would contact the place you started to inform them how she is doing things (having people pay her directly). I don't know about your FH but NO WAY would I be letting my FH handle it he is a softy and if someone said there is nothing we could do he would just accept it. I am the stern one who gets what they want he is not lol.

Haha, TMM, that is how I am too. He is a sweetie and would be very nice to her because wouldn't want to make her feel bad. I have been telling him about everyone's respones, and I can hear a change in his tone... kinda like - ok, let'd do this.

Azulita, as a FH, I went through painstaking efforts to make sure the ring was exactly the way she wanted it. We looked at hundreds of settings before she settled on the right one. I was seriously considering custom work but I didn't want to have to wait for a long time and worry about the job someone would be doing. That all being said, had I gotten custom work done, I would be livid if something like this happened and I would say something ASAP to get the problem fixed. Also I would contact the site you went through and tell them what she did in having her pay her directly. Remember she probably has a contract with them that says they are both required to follow guidelines for conduct, advertising, and payment, and if she broke them, the website folks might be interested in your 2 cents as far as getting this taken care of. Good luck and hopefully you get the problem fixed.

Also, what did/does your contract say with the jeweler say when you had the work done?

You did mention that she was local, I would take a ride down there. Show her the original photos of the design you wanted. And have her fix it or give you a total refund. This is a ring you will be wearing for the rest of your life. Good luck

Yes, stick up for yourself. As a paying customer you need to tell her that this did not meet your expectations. Be stern but not forceful and rude. She should not have promised something that she couldn't deliver.
