I'm tired of waiting for...my ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS

Lauren, on July 16, 2013 at 8:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

So I need to know if I'm overreacting or if this is the norm. I had my engagement pictures taken 4 weeks and 5 days ago, and I have yet to see a single picture. My first mistake was that I never asked her how long it would take to see the proofs, BUT her website said she had a 2 week turnaround time. So after 2 weeks I emailed her asking if the pictures were ready for viewing. I was told that it would be a few more weeks, because it is prime wedding season and the weddings take priority. Which I get, but she took maybe max 300 pictures. On the plus side when she photographs my wedding that will take priority. But for now I'm frustrated, my family is throwing an engagement party for my husband to be and I this Saturday and first I wanted to use the pictures for the invite, and second I wanted to show them off. So am I overreacting? Is a 4-5-6 week turnaround the norm? An if it's not what do I do?

I don't know anything about turn around time, but my FH is a photographer who has done a few weddings. He said the last wedding he shot had about 80 hours worth of editing he had to do. I guess it depends on how much they edit, and how many people they are taking photos for. Hope you get yours soon. I know I would hate waiting.

Maybe it's just me, but 300 pics for an engagement session seems like a lot!! That is probably why it is taking so long

I got tid bits in 2 days, and the full photos in a week.

Generally i think a month should be the max amount of time.

Maybe explain to her that you need these pictures for your engagement party, that might be the kick in the bum she needs. She might not realize you are counting on these pictures to the extent that you need them.

If its any consolation, my SIL & BIL waited 4 MONTHS for her photos . . .

I agree with Valerie -- at least perhaps they can get you A FEW photos, maybe not ALL, but a good handful for the party...

Yes I am actually emailing her as we type...explaining just that. The party situation etc. The thing is I'm not a confrontation person. So even though I've paid a good amount for this person to photography my Shaun and I, I don't want to make waves with her. Even though I think it's crazy that I haven't even gotten a sneak peek of our pictures. Which makes me fearful that it takes a month plus for our engagement pictures how long will it take for our wedding pictures?

It's in my contract that I will have my wedding pictures within 60 calendar days. As for E Pics, he told me he would have them for me in 4 weeks. No sneak peaks. It's different for everyone. If you like the quality of their pics, then have faith yours will turn out just as beautiful Smiley smile Can't wait to see them!

I'll have a hard time waiting for my pics, too. I'm impatient as it is!

Hey Lauren! I am a photographer and 6 weeks is entirely to long. I also do engagement pictures and weddings, and even though it is prime wedding season, it is unacceptable that you haven't seen ANYTHING yet. 300 images from your shoot is really not that many. I know I take at least that many when doing an engagement shoot. I take more than one of each pose so that I have a few to chose from in case of blinking or weird hair or hand position. I understand getting busy but your pictures should be done by now. I would politely email her and get a definite answer as to when you will have them.

I am actually dealing with this with the person who did ours. It has been about 6 weeks and I have only seen one on her website. I think because she is a friend of mine she thinks I will wait longer while she finishes her other projects. I'll be sending the same email. =)

Thank you sooo much Lexie. Your message really eased my nerves. My Shaun and my MOH both are telling me to just let her work her magic, that it'll be worth the wait. Which I'm praying to God that it is. But an not to sound like a total bridezilla but I'd like to feel important, I'd like to feel like even though it was just an engagement session it was just as important to her. So again I am not someone who likes to make waves, but enough is enough.

Fingers crossed this isn't a sign of what to come....Lexie where are you located? If my photographer doesn't work out wanna shoot my wedding? ha.

You are welcome, Lauren! I'm sure it will definitely be worth the wait, but like you I am impatient, lol. You should absolutely feel important in every aspect of planning your wedding. I don't know about you, but I plan on using the pictures on my save the dates and invitations and can't make them and send them until I have the pictures. The effort she puts into your engagement session will give you a good perspective on the effort she will put into your wedding photos. I hope they are everything you hope they will be!!! I am near Harrisburg, PA. Keep in touch, and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

My photographer always tries to take around 300 shots or e-pics which she was pretty much at for ours. She had ours ready and a blog up on her website on about 3 days. She is te main photographer and she has her sister do the editing and site design and all that. So if your photographer is all solo that may be why it's taking so long.

I would ask her if she can get just a few shots ready so you can post them at the engagement party. My photographer took about 4 weeks to send ours and she has a job on top of being a photographer.

Hmm.. I haven't had a photographer and my mom is a freelance so she is doing our std photos and I'm doing the editing part of it. 300 pictures seems good to me being in the field not all 300 will be perfect photos. But the turn around time is kind of out of control... At least in my opinion it seems out of control. I would at least give you more than a handful of pictures within a week or two so you get a "tastes per say and the rest later.. But not seeing one photograph is a bit ridiculous. I would be very upset as well.

I am in the same spot. I had my engagement pics taken 4 weeks and 2 days ago. my photographer has responded two times in the past 4 weeks once saying she was in costa rica and second saying she would have them to me by last Wednesday at the latest. Still no pictures and no responses. I really don't know what to do. I don't even want her to do my wedding photos anymore seeing how she works, to bad i have a contract.. still figuring out how to get out of it. As if i needed anymore stress.
