I'm Jewish, she's Catholic...what day do we get married??

dylanabrams92, on June 19, 2018 at 12:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hi there! I am a Jewish man marrying a Catholic woman, and we are having a hard time figuring out a day to get married because Jewish people cannot get married between Friday at sundown and Saturday at sundown, and Catholics typically do not get married on Sunday. Anyone been in this situation or have any suggestions for a compromise? The day of the week and time will play a key role in determining what kind of reception we have.

I actually thought most Catholics got married on a Sunday?
I was baptized Catholic (currently non religious) and marrying a reformed Jew on a Sunday by FHs childhood rabbi.
I guess it all depends on how much of an influence religion plays in your life.

Early friday brunch wedding? Does it have a role if you are married before sundown on Friday and maybe the reception is still going on?

We're Jewish and were married Friday before sundown. The other option is Saturday after sundown.

I'm Jewish and my H is Catholic, and we had a Friday wedding before sundown. We were free to start at any time we wanted, as the venue only does one wedding per day, so I looked up what time the sun would set, and we had the ceremony start one hour before that. You can also do a late Saturday wedding, after sundown, which, if you're aiming for a November wedding, wouldn't even have to be that late, as the sun is setting around 5, 5:30pm. You could probably have a 6pm ceremony in November and be fine.

We're Jewish and getting married Saturday evening around sundown. We're not quite as concerned about the exact time because my brother is officiating rather than a Rabbi but most reformed Rabbis will be flexible these days. May depend on how religious you want it to be.

Unless it's against the law or your family will refuse to attend... get married whenever you want to!

Catholics can get married on Sunday---there is no rule against it. Are you getting married in either faith? Or just a civil ceremony? If you are just doing a civil ceremony, do either Friday before sundown or Sunday.

If you are planning an interfaith ceremony and want to do Sunday--you need to have a bishop approve a Wedding Mass, for Sunday. However, Catholics generally cannot get married outside a Vatican approved space, just as a heads up--at least for a proper Catholic ceremony.

Well the good thing is that in November sundown is a little earlier than the summer. I would go with Saturday after sundown if I had to choose.

I am going to a Catholic - Jewish wedding this week and it is at 4pm on a Friday (before sundown). I am Catholic and don't believe there is technically a rule about not getting married on a Sunday though I honestly don't know that i've been to a wedding in a Catholic church on a Sunday. I'm guessing it would be hard to reserve.

Saturday after sundown in the winter. The sun sets at like 5:30pm so you can easily have an evening wedding.
