Ideas on Cheap Catering

Brittny, on May 14, 2019 at 5:43 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
My fiancé and decided to move our wedding date up. Because we moved it up we are having to cut costs where we can. I mentioned maybe doing a potluck wedding... but some family members said that was bad luck. Looking for other suggestions or creative ideas to lower our catering costs. Thank you!

Italian, bbq, or Mexican restaurants will be cheapest.

Please don't do a potluck. As Kelly said, Italian, BBQ, and Mexican are usually pretty inexpensive. You can often times find local restaurants that offer catering for cheaper than chain restaurants or stand alone caterers.

We’re doing BBQ, we’re in the south so it’s pretty easy to find down here. We’re getting meat from one restaurant & sides from another, we’re feeding around 60 to 70 people (including kids) for $509

I second the bbq! We were quoted at a well known local place $506 for 100 people. That’s 36 pounds of bbq, green beans, slaw and 400 hush puppies. I’m about it.

Agree with others.. Also check out local restaurants in your area that will cater or do drop off catering. We found our caterer on thumbtack.com and got a good deal.

When we were looking for caterers, Mexican or BBQ was the least inexpensive way to go which we were both fine with. We ultimately ended up choosing a venue that offers in house catering.

As the owner of a mexican restaurant im going to say go with mexican food, its soo inexpensive, and DO NOT,DO NOOOOT mention you want them to cater for your wedding, dont even mention the word wedding at all,

    example
if you want to feed guest enchiladas, ans ypure having 10 guest, feed them 2 enchiladas each plus rice and beans so you go in and ask what is the best price dor 20 enchiladas with rice and beans??

other example if u want to serve fajitas, its also in expensive since it has lots of vegies, its already served with rice beans sour cream guac and pico just mention how many peoplw u have,do not mentiong wedding,in our town BBQ is really expensive

We are ordering food in bulk, and having a couple people help us cook. It's going to act as a cook off between 2 of the best meat cooks we know (obviously moms are the best cooks overall).

Were having our local Mexican restaurant do a taco and chips/salsa bar. Super affordable! Everyone can improvise to make it how they like

If you happen to have a Mission BBQ in your neck of the woods, check them out. (I'm biased because they're a MD staple haha). A friend was able to have them cater their wedding for a fairly good price. They delivered, set up, served, and cleaned up!

Do you have to do a full meal? Can you just do heavy hors d’oeurves? Then you don’t have to worry as much about having catering staff there someone can just keep an eye on the food and make sure to keep putting it out. But we are also doing bbq and it was by far the cheapest we found. And we’re getting plates, cups, etc from Costco instead of having the caterer bring them to cut the price down as well
