Ideas for passing of family

Megan, on July 20, 2020 at 11:14 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
Family members have passed away recently and am trying to think of some ideas that are different to appreciate them at the wedding.

We had a moment of silence during the ceremony. We did a memory display with flowers, candles, and photos on our reception fireplace mantle. I chose not to reserve seats with their picture but some people do that. You could have a locket with their picture put into your bouquet. You could put their names in the program. Just some ideas that I think are sweet.

I am sorry for your losses. What do you mean by different? What ideas have you seen that you don't like? That would help with suggestions.

I think with memorials simple is best and it's important to remember all the guests who might be grieving (especially if it's fresh grief!) and take into consideration whether some memorials might be too painful for them (e.g., the empty seats can really bother some people). A memory table with photos is my favorite kind of memorial because people can choose to visit it or avoid it, and the photos can show happier times.

Different from your typical thing. Something creative. Just kinda seeing what ideas come up.

We also had a moment of silence during our ceremony at which time my husband and I put a single flower on each reserved seat that we had in the front row.

We're doing a memorial table with candles and pictures of our loved ones. My FH's parents have passed away so we will also have an empty seat at the ceremony, in the front on his side, and there will be picture of them in that seat.

We're doing a moment of silence, listing in the program, reserving empty seats, and putting charms that remind us of them in my bouquet and somewhere on my partner's attire. We'll ask the photographer to feature the charms in some close-up shots.

Our officiant read this portion of Roads Go Ever On by Tolkien in memorial of passed loved ones.

    Roads go ever ever on,
    Under cloud and under star.
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen,
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green,
And trees and hills they long have known.

I am getting a bouquet charm, I have a necklace charm that has some ashes in it that I will wrap around the bouquet as well (my father), and we will have some candles lit on a small side table at the reception.
