Ideas for female roles other than bridesmaids.

Mallory, on March 24, 2018 at 11:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
I have 3 sisters but I'm closer to my friends than them. I still feel like I have to have my sister's as bridesmaids. I have 3 friends that must bebridesmaids / maid of honor. However I have 5 more I really want to be more than just a guest. He has 5 groomsmen and a best man. I thought of doing 2 women with 1 man for half the guys so 9 women but what roles could the other 2 women play? Someone mentioned having one get ordained and handle the ceremony as well as any announcements at reception and play the role of master of ceremonies. I know usher is an option but the seating isn't formal so I don't think we need ushers it would seem like a useless title. I would rather not include them if the inclusion seems rude. I feel like it's easier to explain I have 3 sisters than to have them be offended I asked them to participate in a way they don't like. Example my baby sister is ordained I originally asked her to marry us and she was upset that she wouldn't be a bridesmaid. Had I just said we are keeping a small ceremony and had 3 bridesmaids that weren't my sister's I think she would've been fine. But 6 & none were her was insulting... Apparently.

I can't see why your sister is upset that you asked her to marry you instead of just being a bridesmaid... Also, its YOUR wedding, you shouldn't feel pressured into having your sisters in your bridal party.

I have three brothers, and three sisters, and none of them will be in our wedding party. Two of my sister's are musical, so I will ask them to play before the ceremony. There is also the option of having them do readings. My brothers have specified that they have no interest in participating other than being a guest. It's your wedding, she should understand that.

I'm not interested in cutting my sister's more in finding special roles for close friends that are not too odd.

You could have them doing readings or toasts

Maybe one or both could do a reading. It could be religious or non religious. That’s how I’m including a childhood best friend that I didn’t pick to be a bridesmaid.

You'd be better off to keep it small. When everybody is "honored" it dilutes the effect. And yes, people are less understanding when there isn't "room" for them in a smaller party than a larger one. You will keep your planning simpler and less expensive (fewer gifts, fewer bouquets, etc) with a smaller BP
