Ice cream wedding cake

tigger, on December 23, 2009 at 7:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

I would love to have an ice cream cake for my wedding. Any ideas that I could do to keep it fresh. Like and ice sculpture tray for it to sit on. A fake cake maybe till the serving. Any ideas anyone.

I know but if I could somehow keep it cold----or do something where I can just bring it out for serving dessert and the cake cut

Does your venue have a freezer that they could store it and then just bring it out real quick so you and FH can cut the first piece and then it goes back to get cut? Do you definitely need it displayed? Ice cream cake would be adorable for a summer wedding!!

Well I haven't thought of a venue yet, and I want a summer wedding. I guess it just needs to be displayed long enough for pictures. My FH and I were thinking about having our reception in one of his family's back yard to save money and they have a decent back yard big enough to accomodate everyone. As far as the freezer I am not sure. I know my FH is not a cake or ice cream person so I decided I am getting him a giant cookie. A groom's cookie instead of a grooms cake

My FH's parents had an ice cream cake wedding cake- all you need to do is confirm that you can use the hotel freezer and actually let it sit out the time stated in the instructions-

(FH's parents panicked thinking it would melt and broke their knife blade right off the handle cause it was too frozen)

Typically recommend siting out the cake for 30 mins which is long enough for everyone to appreciate your selection

I would go with the fake wedding cake... i was even reading somewhere that you can rent theM! or a smaller wedding cake for people who dont like ice cream (hurts my teeth... but i still love it!) and just keep the ice creme one in the back... plus it would save you if you just had to buy it in sheet cakes

Like littlefox said, you would have to keep your ice cream cake out FOREVER for it to start dripping. They don't use normal ice cream in there so it stays solid longer. I would definitely let it thaw out for at least 30 minutes. Then bring it out for yall to cut it and then it can be served up immediately.

Cold Stone Creamery also offers some options. You might look to a conventional cake for the cutting and something that Cold Stone offers for the general populous.

    ICE CREAM CAKE IS POSSABLE...

my cousin is a pastry chef and i talked to my cousin because my friend wants one too. she told me that you should have a fake cake made out of cardboard (you cant tell it) and to have the cake in the freezer in a sheet cake. she told me you cant tell the difference and it is made to look the same so people cant tell the dfference. when they bring the cake out then they will roll the fake one in. I did not ask her about the cake cuting but if you talk to a baker about it i am sure they will have ideas unless u use regular cake at that time. This will work if you want to have it showing at all times.

And if you have it in a freezer maybe you should take it out a little earlier than the actual cutting because all the ice cream cakes I've had have been kind of hard to cut...

    .

but maybe if you used the ice sculpture idea that might help

I used to work at an ice cream store and we did a few ice cream wedding cakes. you get three different sizes, and dont put them together until right before you bring it out. just keep it in the freezer at your venue until the cake is brought out. you can always do a fake cake! most places do that anyway. they make a fake cake look reall cute, then have a sheet cake in the back.

Your wedding is in June. I have to ask inside or outside. You may have answered already but I did not read all the posts. If outside be very careful if inside as other have said your venue might have room in there freezer but don't assume this, check to make sure they will.
