I think I picked the wrong dress.

Olivia, on June 15, 2014 at 11:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

Is there anyone out there who feels they bought the wrong dress? Don't get me wrong I love the style of my dress it fits my theme and fits me well. However it has straps and I've always wanted a sweatheart neckline. Has anyone changed there dress from sleeves to sleeveless? I'm worried the dress is a scoop front and won't be able to change to strapless. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sometimes I think I may have not bought the right dress. I see other dresses online, or that other brides have picked. I am then overcome with almost crippling doubt. Did I make the right choice? Then I put my dress on, I lace it up. I see the way the crystals sparkle, and the way the corseted back gives me the most beautiful shape, and the way the train spreads out behind me in the most spectacular arch.

My doubt melts away every time I put on my dress, or look at pictures of me in my dress. But I know that my doubt will come back, and that its normal.

You can always alter the dress how you want it! it will definitely be cheaper than buying a new one. They can remove straps, add a sweetheart, anything you want to edit. My consultant told me on my first trip that a lot of brides pick a *base* gown then tweak it to be exactly what they want! It never hurts to consult them and see what they can do.

Dreama took the words out of my mouth. But personally I loved it the way it is. I am the type who always wanted a dress with straps since I feel self conscious in a dress without it.

If you're considering making major changes like going from sleeves to sleeveless I think you should go get it altered ASAP.

But I think it's beautiful the way it is!

I read online how this one seamstress recommended three months from initial to final fitting. But it could be just her. Also if you plan to make those big changes you mentioned then you should definitely get on the phone to get their professional opinions now. It could take a while depending on how busy they are.

I think the dress is beautiful! But, if you're really unsure, if you bought it at David's Bridal you can look into exchanging it. I wasn't sure about my first dress, so I went back, tried on a few more, and found one I liked much better and exchanged it.

Honestly, I think it would take a lot to change that dress and I would be worried that it wouldn't look the way you envisioned. If you always wanted a strapless, why did you pick this dress? I always wanted straps.....and ended up picking a strapless that I just loved! There must have been a reason you picked this one.....?

I second what FutureMrsJona said. The dress is beautiful as in my opinion and changing the neckline could alter the look of the gown. GO to a good seamstress and weigh your options. In the end you need to make sure you get the gown that makes you happy on your wedding day.

I chose this dress because it made me look great! I'm just worried about having straps that get in the way during the reception since I plan to dance a lot. I put the dress on and hid the straps and I loved it. I just don't want to have to worry about the dress falling. That couple be bad lol

Those straps would not be hard to remove at all. it would be no different than removing the straps and adding cap sleeves. Which might be a good idea, idk!

Since it's a scoop neck, I would worry that the neckline would dip a bit too low if you changed it to strapless. I'm wondering if they may need to add a little material and build it up a bit in order to make it a sweetheart. It will depend on your measurements though. That could be pricey. Definitely see a seamstress sooner rather than later to discuss the options. It's a gorgeous dress!

Talk to a seamstress about making it strapless it most likely can be done. Now making it a sweetheart may be hard and not look good since it has slight folds in the fabric that will have to be redone to look right. Also major changes to a dress like this can cost a lot.

Sometimes those "nothing special" dresses are the ones that will look the best 50 years from now. All those fit and flare dresses? They will be out like 80s poof dresses.
