i think i found my dress on the first day of dress shopping?

Hannah, on February 21, 2021 at 9:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I went dress shopping for the first time yesterday and figured it would be the first of several appointments. Well, we ended up having a great time and I fell in love with a Monique Lhuillier dress at the second shop! I'm not one to make a quick decision so I left without buying. However, this was not supposed to be "the" trip, and today I almost feel anxious about committing this early in the process, if that makes sense. Has anyone else felt this way? I am 100% a people pleaser and had previously talked with my fiance's mom and sister about doing a day with them and my mom where they live (NYC). So I guess I am wondering if anyone else has been through the situation where they find a dress they love love love, but don't want the dress shopping "process" to be over yet? If I do end up going to NYC, it would be in 1.5 months, so maybe I should just wait on purchasing the dress, go to appointments with fiance's mom, sister, and my mom, and if I still love the ML dress the best I can always order it from the original shop?

Also, the shop said that with the pandemic, lead times are running about 8-10 months, which seems like a lifetime! Has anyone else bought there dress 1.5 years before their wedding? Did you still love it after so much time has passed? Sorry for the long post I guess I'm just anxious to make such an expensive purchase and want to make sure I am thinking everything through!

It's completely reasonable to be anxious! "The dress" for me was the first one I tried on at the second store I went to. I'm very indecisive and thought there was no way I found the one already, so I ended up going to two more shops. I found 2 or 3 that I liked, but my mind kept going back to the other one. If I were you, I'd still go to NYC and try on dresses there. Everyone wants the experience of trying on dresses with their loved ones present!

I bought my dress 9 months before my wedding since they said it would take 5 or 6 months to come in, and it ended up coming in in about 3 months, so I think they were overestimating. I'm sure you'll fall in love with it again once you see it in your size and know that it's YOUR dress!

That is so exciting to find your dress! Since you have a while, I would continue with the plan to go to NYC and get the bridal shopping experience! That sounds like it's going to be so much fun!

If you still love the first dress you found then and you know it was the one!

We got engaged July’19 (getting married 4/3/21), found & booked our venue September’19. My first dress appointment was last April &, as we all know, was postponed because of COVID. I finally got to go dress shopping in June but was so stressed I wouldn’t find it. I think you’re fine with your idea on going with them to look but you also have your plan of getting the dress you want.

I feel like I'm in the minority with how my dress shopping went as I only went to 1 place and fell in love with the first dress I tried on ha. Obviously I still tried on other dresses but the first one just fit so perfectly and everyone who was with me said it just looked like it was me. What matters is how I felt. After trying it on initially and putting it on after trying the other dresses I didn't want to take it off. It doesn't hurt to continue looking but do what you feel is best for yourself!

I did the exact same thing. I wound up only going to one shop, and at the end of the appointment (after trying on 6-8 dresses), I bought the first one I tried on. It was perfect and there was no point to me in continuing to go to other shops!

If it were me, I’d definitely continue shopping around a little because 1) dress shopping is fun! And it’s a nice bonding experience especially if you already have plans to do more shopping trips. And 2) if you still love that first dress after trying on others then you know for sure that’s your dress and can be totally confident in your decision! (Take it from me, I bought a dress I fell in love with early, and then fell in love with a different one just a week later at a “just for fun” shopping trip I had planned with my bridesmaids weeks before)

I wouldn't recommend purchasing a dress 18 months in advance. Body size could change.

I did! I went to a wedding dress shop for the first that had their dresses on sale. I tried on 2 dresses and the 2nd ended up being my wedding dress. I did buy it early on but I don't regret it at all. I can't even find my dress online so I'm so glad I didn't miss out on it.

I ended up going with the very first dress I tried on but i tried on several after that one to make sure but it was "the one" I got it the same day and cried when i put it back on

I ordered the dress in November, had my first alteration appt in January, second was this month and my last is the last week of march and im getting married in April.
