i said yes to the dress...without my family

Samantha, on June 28, 2019 at 8:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Here's a little background; I was born and raised in NY. I moved to DE and my entire family lives in NY. I had asked my mom and sisters if they can come out in July to come with me to try on dresses. My older sister said she had plans and my mom said it was "too soon" Mind you, my wedding date is 9-5-2020. Anyway...I went today with my daughter to try on different styles and everything I wanted in a dress, I hated on me. I try on a dress that I only picked because it had pockets, and I fell instantly in love with it!! I couldn't say no. And the sales associate added a belt, veil (I didn't want one) and tiara, and I cried!!! I couldn't leave without saying yes. I'm using this as a platform to just let out how much I loved trying on dresses and saying yes. I would have loved for my family to be there, but they aren't happy to begin with and are making it extremely difficult when I try to make an appointment. So now when we go back, we have to act like it's my first appointment. #sorrynotsorry.

I wouldn't act like it's my first appt. My mom and my sisters didn't make it to my first appt and I found the dress! When they finally came up I took them to the dress shop and tried on the dress that I picked and had them jack me up with the veil and belt and I brought my own shoes. And everyone loved it!

Hi Michelle! I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately my mom and sisters wouldn't let me live it down. My fiance proposed in front of friends when we were having a small get-together and they are still holding a grudge against him and my friends! It's tough! Family though...

During one of my appointments my MOH and I were talking to the manager and she told us that they frequently pretend to find the dress after the bride has already picked it out at a prior appointment. She said lots brides come in just to try styles not expecting to fall in love with a dress and do. I would totally have to pretend for my moms sake too- she would be so upset at missing that moment! Congrats on finding a dress though!

That's so shocking! I thought I was the only one. I'm glad I'm not Smiley smile My mom would be devastated if she knew. But I couldn't leave without that dress. I would have been devastated without it.

    Thank you!

I bought my dress all by myself. I did FaceTime my mom when I narrowed it down to one. All of my close loved ones and BMs live in another city and I didn’t want to worry about lugging a dress around. I’m glad you found your dress. Congrats!!!!

I am excited to start looking for a dress but I am also feeding it because just like you I live in another state from all my friends and family. I would love to have the enjoy of my friends and my mom helping me pick out a dress but they are unable to travel until it's time for the wedding. So I guess when I start shopping it'll be me and my 9 yr old daughter.

My mom specifically said don’t go cause she wants to be there when I say yes. But she lives in a different state and trying to schedule an appointment is proving to be really hard for everyone else’s schedule

I brought my 13 year old daughter and we had fun. Granted I missed my mom and sisters being there but I don’t want to wait until it’s too late and too expensive to go dress shopping. I tried making an appointment with them for July and now it’ll be September and that’s if nothing else comes up. I know I’m going to sound selfish but it’s about me and I don’t want to please everyone else

I hear you. I think my mom was disappointed as well. But there’s so many details to planning a wedding and you can’t please everyone. ❤️
