i said yes to my dress!!! My experience and advice:

I posted on here earlier this week because I was stressing about my dress appointments. I had 7 women with me: mom, sister, both grandmothers, Future MIL, and both FSIL’s. I had some anxiety because half of these women are pretty opinionated and our families don’t know each other well so I was preparing for “awkward”. We had 4 appointments scheduled for Saturday. Went to the first one and everyone was great, getting along, pleasant, EXCEPT my crazy grandmother. Love the lady to death but she was on a MISSION to shove her opinions and picks down my throat right off the bat. I was changing in the dressing room at one point and the woman legit had her phone through the curtain trying to take pictures while I’m half dressed. CALM DOWN LADY! Sit your butt on the couch and wait for the curtain to open like EVERYONE else. Anyway, I found some contenders at the first shop but never got that “feeling”. Went to the second shop and the consultant gave everyone clips to go tag gowns. She said “don’t pay attention to silhouette or price tag. If she likes it, we’ll find one in her budget that’s similar.” This was a BIG mistake. A few dresses in and I put on “the one”. Tears were flowing and of course by that point it was too late. That was my dress. Ended up spending double what I really wanted to spend but it is what it is! I am IN LOVE with my dress.
Three bits of advice for ladies going to find a dress:
1. Limit your crowd! I got guilted into it and didn’t have the heart to say no but, dear God, it would have been so much more enjoyable without the drama.
2. Do NOT let the consultant con you like she did me. Luckily my FH just got a big raise and we can take the hit but if you have a strict budget don’t let them give your party “free reign”.
3. 10/10 recommend going to Spec’s in between appointments and making mimosas in Solo Cups in the parking lot😂 It was just enough to calm me down and make me more pleasant/less stressed.
Now the goal is to keep the gown a secret from my fiancé until next October. LOL

    It’s beautiful on you. I went with just my mom the first time and the second time my aunt came with us and that’s when I found the 1.

    Thank youSmiley smile Do not feel guilty at all!!! I wish I had just said no to everyone and gone with less people. My grandmother will not be coming to my fittings with me. Smiley xd I don't think I can take much more from her.

    Your dress is stunning, I love it! You're completely right, never try anything on outside of your price range! I went shopping with just my mom and I'm happy it was such a small event with just the two of us.

    That dress is gorgeous!

    My mom and my "bff" from back home 2 hours away basically demanded that I go up there to go shopping with them. So I secretly made a local appointment and a couple of friends went with me instead. My mom and "bff" were super ticket but it was SO less stressful without them. My mom would have pushed me to buy the $99 one that I almost bought instead of the one I love that was $499 but still in my budget. My "bff" would have told me she didn't like anything because there were no sleeves and she doesn't like dresses without sleeves.

    Thank you!!! The consultant at the previous place warned me that they would do that but everyone got a little swept up in excitement of choosing a dress that they weren't paying attention. I put "My Dress" on and started tearing up and then everyone started crying. They all asked "Is this it???" and I was like "I have no idea! I don't know how much it isSmiley cry " Luckily it was only a few hundred dollars over budget. If it had been more, I would have been leaving disappointed. Good call on keeping your appointment a small event! My grandmother was the only difficult one (no surprise) but I was obligated to let her come if I let everyone else come. I could have avoided her drama had I just gone with my mom. Oh well! At least I found the dress!!

    I actually did this too! I went with my maid of honor a month ago so I could get an idea of what I like. Nobody at this past appointment knew that but it was super helpful in knowing what fabric/styles to stray away from. I told the stylist at the secret appointment that if I found my dress, I was coming back with the parade of people and acting like a stranger. She told me that it's actually SO common for brides to do that!

    So pretty! Worth the money if it makes you feel beautiful, though!


    And I agree. Solo shopping is where it's at. I didn't like my experience shopping with my sisters as much as I love them and as much fun as we had I don't think they helped me do anything more than love something I couldn't afford LOL

    I'm super close to FH's family and both of his sisters are bridesmaids so that didn't really bother me. Honestly, nobody was an issue except my grandmother. My mom and older sister both eloped so I guess this is years of my grandmothers' built up wedding planning dreams exploding? I have no idea but it turned her into another person. Everyone else was pleasant and helpful for the most partSmiley smile
