I need a nice poem for the front of our album

The Potters, on October 22, 2009 at 5:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

My photographer has asked us to pick out a nice poem for the front of our wedding album she is doing. I thought about doing this, which I asked the Reverend to read at the ceremony:

"Now you will feel no rain,

For each of you will be shelter to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,

For each of you will be warmth to the other.

Now there is no more loneliness for you.

For each of you will be companion to the other.

Now you are two bodies,

But there is only one Life before you.

Go now to your dwelling place,

To enter into the days of your togetherness.

And may your days be good and long upon the earth"

Do you have any other good ones?

    Here's a really short one

    From this day forward

    From this day forward,

    You shall not walk alone.

    My heart will be your shelter,

    And my arms will be your home.

    We did the traditional vows, but that is a very nice idea.

    LOVE"S RECIPE

    Take a pinch of lovers' dreams

    Add a tender smile or two

    One spoonful of tenderness

    And wishes fond and true

    Throw in faithfulness and trust

    Simmer a decade or two

    Then serve as loving friendship

    To last a lifetime through.

    THE HEART"S ANCHOR

    Think of me as your friend, I pray,

    And call me bu a loving name;

    I will not care what others say,

    If only you will remain the same.

    I will not care how dark the night,

    I will not care how wild the storm,

    Your love will fill my heart with light

    And shield me close and keep me warm.

    “To Be One With Each Other” by George Eliot

    What greater thing is there for two human souls

    than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen

    each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow,

    to share with each other in all gladness,

    to be one with each other in the

    silent unspoken memories?

    Here's the last one i have

    PARTNERS

    The first dance of all when they danced heart to heart

    They knew, they both knew, it was only the start

    Of something more wonderful that a mere dance

    More than a thrill of a passing romance.

    They knew without saying the Love, the real thing

    Had touched them that night with its shimmering wing

    No word had been spoken and yet they both knew

    That suddenly all sorts of dreams had come true.

    It's many a year since the night that they met

    But that first dance they will never forget

    Then a boy and girl and now a husband and wife

    Still happy, still dancing and partners for life.

    An excerpt from "The Master Speed" by Robert Frost

    Two such as you with such a master speed

    Cannot be parted nor be swept away

    From one another once you are agreed

    That life is only life forevermore

    Together wing to wing and oar to oar.

    Two Fragments by Sappho

    Love holds me captive again

    and I tremble with bittersweet longing

    As a gale on the mountainside bends the oak tree

    I am rocked by my love

    Count Leo Tolstoy, Russian writer, to Valeria Arsenev, his fiance.

    I already love in you your beauty, but I am only beginning to love in you that which is eternal and ever precious - your heart, your soul. Beauty one could get to know and fall in love with in one hour and cease to love it as speedily; but the soul one must learn to know. Believe me, nothing on earth is given without labor, even love, the most beautiful and natural of feelings.

    The poet Yueh Fu

    "I want to be your friend forever and ever.

    When the hills are all flat, and the rivers are all dry;

    When the trees blossom in winter,

    And the snow falls in summer;

    When heaven and earth mix - -

    Not till then will I part from you."

    “A White Rose” by JB O’Reilly

    The red rose whispers of passion,

    And the white rose breathes of love;

    O, the red rose is a falcon,

    And the white rose is a dove.

    But I send you a cream-white rosebud

    With a flush on its petal tips;

    For the love that is purest and sweetest

    Has a kiss of desire on the lips

    We're actually having that blessing read at the end of our ceremony as well! I once saw on the front of an album the short little phrase "Today's smiles are tomorrow's memories." Simple, but sweet. I however, vote for the native american blessing you had at your wedding.

    To keep your marriage brimming,

    With love in the loving cup,

    Whenever you're wrong, admit it;

    Whenever you're right, shut up.

    -Excerpt by Ogden Nash
