I look ugly with professional makeup :(

Can someone give me some tips on how to do my own wedding makeup? I have had a few trials and they've all just put way too much on me and made me look like a clown. I've attached a few photos of what I look like in real life (vs the trials...) Thanks in advance!

Also, I agree with others, your everyday makeup is fantastic

You're so pretty! In both but I agree that your everyday makeup looks better than the heavy eyes

Go back and tell the MUA how you feel. I came home from my first trial and FH said he hated it bc I didn't look like myself. She did the next trial for free.

Go tell one of those people it's to much. I most humbly disagree with you... But you paid them. Go tell them.

If you came back to me with that complaint it would be am easy fix to use more warm Browns and little the eyes up a little. I wouldn't change your foundation at all.

Also. Keep in mind what you feel and what you looking are not the same thing. You feel like you have a ton om there... But you look great. Might just need some getting used to.

You shouldn't compare these two photos . I do prefer your look in the 1st photo with your FH however you seem to be under natural light. In the 2 nd picture you are under florescent light and it will affect your skin tone.

Remember that photography and flash wash people out. I had heavy makeup for my wedding but a) it lasted through sweat and tears and b) looked amazing in photos

Actual makeup getting done. More dramatic but as you can see in above photo, it blends in more with photography lighting.

MUAs typically do put more than you would normally, because most people WANT that. You can definitely go back, but if you're uncomfortable and decided you definitely want to do your own, I do have tips.

PRIMERS PRIMERS PRIMERS. It looks like you're pretty good with makeup generally, so you may have some, but you need a foundation primer and eye primer (this will keep your eyeshadows from creasing). Use a finishing spray as well!

You also need more than you think you do. Obviously you felt like a "circus clown" in the second image--which...GIRL. Shut up, you're gorgous!--so you don't want to overdo it, but do your own trials, and make sure you get people to take pictures with their selfie cameras, which are general poor quality cameras, and some with flash, and outside, and inside, and in every which position you can imagine.

    Use lots of bronzer.

Do you have oily skin, dry skin, or pretty normal skin?

What you look great! Maybe just tell them what you like. I'm sure they are just trying to make your features pop.

I feel the same way about myself.

BUT I think you look great with professional make up. I think it's probably just that you aren't used to seeing yourself that way.

I really don't think you look ugly!! You're a beautiful girl. I don't know about the dark colors because you seem to do a more natural look. Try going for a second run and doing a more natural look!!

I think they just did a little too smokey of an eye and it kind of makes them looks smaller. I want my eyes to look bright and open. I can't really tell, but it looks like they lined your eyes completely (top, bottom, waterlines) with black liner. Every makeup tip I've ever read said that's a "make-up don't." I personally like to line my corners and lower lash line with a light metallic (currently a golden/bronze color) and then add darker liner as needed. Here's a picture of my desired eye (clearly ideal for blue eyes, but I'm sure there's a more natural/lighter look for brown eyes)!

I work in a salon as a stylist & I have heard that the only thing to go "overboard" on is your eye make-up.. Brides have complained before that you can't tell they have any eye shadow on unless it's darker that you actually want it. (That is if you want it to be visible in pictures.)

Wow, you are gorgeous! Just tell them you don't want to look like you are going to the club and like the others have said give some examples that you like to the MUA.

You have hooded lids! I do too. Smiley smile I think the issues you're having are more the result of the MUA's skillset.

A LOT of makeup artists have absolutely no idea how to handle eye makeup for hooded lids - the techniques and application that work for folks with more eyelid space either disappear on us entirely, or just look WAY too heavy.

My suggestion - look through the portfolio of the artists you're considering. Look for examples of makeup on other brides with similar hooded eyes/eyeshape. Be wary of an artist who only has photos of brides with super visible, ample lid space. Anybody can do eye makeup well on eyes like that, but hooded eyes require a bit more skill.

Bring pictures of what you like, and what you dont like - and try to again, find photos of makeup on models who also have hooded lids. Blake Lively, Julianne Hough, and Jennifer Lawrence are all great ones to look at - their MUAs do an awesome job and are a GREAT source of inspiration for those of us with that eye shape. Smiley smile

Also, as an aside - if you never have, try MAC Syrup lipstick. That color was seriously MADE for you.

You are gorgeous!! It looks like they used darker/smokier colors. If they switched to subtler neutrals and browns it would soften the eyes a little but still help them pop in your photos!
