I look ugly with professional makeup :(

sarabee, on March 1, 2016 at 8:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39

Can someone give me some tips on how to do my own wedding makeup? I have had a few trials and they've all just put way too much on me and made me look like a clown. I've attached a few photos of what I look like in real life (vs the trials...)

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried showing MUA exactly what you want. Maybe take pictures with you or what you like and don't like.

I doubt that you could look ugly...I'd let them know that you just really want to look like you, but you enough for all the photos and in real life too!

The first one is me in real life and the second one is the trial!

I don't think you look ugly at all, however you're naturally beautiful, and I prefer the less makeup on the left. You look stunning. A little mascara maybe lip gloss and a light highlight color on your cheek bones. I believe in feeling like yourself and not going overboard to the point of feeling not yourself.

First off, I think you look gorgeous in both photos! It definitely doesn't look like too much to me (and certainly not like a clown!!) I'd suggest still giving it another try with a makeup artist and telling them exactly what you didn't like from before and ask them to keep it as natural as possible. I know you may think you'll feel most comfortable with how you do your own makeup, but I imagine it is going to be a very hectic day and I wouldn't want to risk adding the extra stress of having to perfect my makeup myself. This is coming from someone who loves doing makeup (on myself and others) but I know I have off days and wouldn't want to risk my wedding being one of them.

You don't look like a clown. But keep in mind pro makeup for pics will look wayyyyyy heavier than it shows in pictures. It's supposed to! I think your trial looks good though the foundation may be a tad too dark is all.?

I think you look great in both photos, but can see that you have more makeup in the second. How many trials have you had? What did you show them for inspiration? It could just be that they don't understand what kind of look you want.

I think you look great in both pictures. Have you tried asking your MUA to just tone down the look in the trial picture? I think it looks like you, but the makeup just looks a little heavy and could be made to look more natural.

You're gorgeous! It's maybe just more contrast than you're used to? FWIW it photographs beautifully.

Tell your MUA you want to be enhanced, not made up. does that make sense?

Uhh you don't look ugly and you know it! Remember that make up for your wedding is going to be heavier than what you wear every day. You want your features like your eyes to stand out in the photographs. I had false eyelashes which I never wear normally. Try another MUA who does a good bridal look. Or if you are set on doing it yourself go on YouTube. Tutorials there will help you more than any of us can.

You don't look bad in either but I 100% understand feeling more comfortable in natural makeup. I chose to do my makeup myself because I am most comfortable with how I do it and didn't want anyone else to. If you like how you look with your own makeup, then you can always do it yourself if you feel ok with that. Otherwise if you still want a pro then just take in some pics and be firm that you want a more natural look. Some people think you "have" to look a certain way for a bridal look. I got crap from a bunch of people about the fact that I didn't wear foundation on my wedding day but I prefer myself without it. So just figure out how you feel your best and go with that.

Okay, first of all, you don't look ugly!!!!

But I can see how "done" makeup would seem overwhelming if you usually rock a natural look. I was very lucky to have my MUA and hair done as a gift by my best pal who's a professional stylist. I told her, "Don't make me look like a whore or a clown," and she gave me a nice, but done, natural look.

(But I think your makeup looks great.)

I feel your pain. The first photo looks the best. Maybe try a few others or explain to the MUA the lighter look your going for.

I think you look great in both, but I do see what you're talking about. It does look a bit heavy. I would go to a different makeup artist and make sure to tell them you want it to look light and natural.

Honestly, girl, you are so pretty. It would take a Halloween mask to make that pretty face disappear. But you do have several options. You can tell the MUA that you what a lighter, more natural look and try again. Or you can do your own makeup.

I know it's not the popular route, but I am doing my own makeup. I've been using YouTube videos to practice techniques and looks. I think if you are willing to put one the extra time to get comfortable doing it yourself you can do it. But that all depends on your comfort level with makeup in general. I know many ladies say it is a stress relief to have someone else do it. Me personally, I don't like when other people do my makeup either!
