I have to tell my Bridesmaid "No kids allowed" :(

I asked a long distance girlfriend of mine to be a bridesmaid. She has been married before and was dating/living with someone with 2 kids at the time I asked her. She told me they had a quick backyard weekend wedding and now they are married. The thing is we are having a "kid-free" wedding, but now...

I asked a long distance girlfriend of mine to be a bridesmaid. She has been married before and was dating/living with someone with 2 kids at the time I asked her. She told me they had a quick backyard weekend wedding and now they are married. The thing is we are having a "kid-free" wedding, but now that she is married and the kid's mother is considered "unfit" I feel awkward in telling her that kids cannot come.

If we let everyone we are inviting bring their kids we would end up with over 30 kids (too much $$ and chaos). Another bridesmaid coming from San Fran to Maine completely understands and is arranging childcare for her son. Can someone ease my concerns that she will understand? On the other hand I totally understand her backing out of being in my wedding could be a consequence.

Oh i see. Well at my wedding I did have kids there (just like 9). But I found out after the fact that during the reception two of them had run out into the parking lot and their parents couldn't find them inside..So ya that was bad lol. I guess they got a good talking to for sneaking outside.

Just be honest, rip the band-aid. Worst case she says she can no longer come to the wedding!

@Miss DB, I totally want to do that. I want my out of town guests with kids to bring their children if they have to, but I don't want them at the wedding. Our wedding venue is in a college town, I'm hoping to hire a few college students to help us out.
