I have NATURAL Hair

Are there any brides with natural Afro hair (i.e. no relaxer or chemically processed hair)? If so, how are you wearing your hair for your wedding day? I know I want mine straightened, possibly with a natural looking sew-in and styled with pin curls and/or finger waves, but I'm having trouble...

I know I want mine straightened, possibly with a natural looking sew-in and styled with pin curls and/or finger waves, but I'm having trouble deciding because I want my hair to look nice and last for that entire week of the wedding since we have multiple events to attend/host. Not to mention the honeymoon. What are you all doing?

@Tamar he may not notice right away. Besides you're right, he'll probably be too caught up in the day to say something about my hair :-) Yea, I think I'm going to go that route.

I have natural hair and I usually wear it in a fro, twists or a twist out. For the wedding I plan to have my hair straightened and pulled into a high bun. My stylist will add additional hair to the bun to give it fullness. I know a twist out wouldn't hold up in the Kansas 100 degree heat. I decided to play it safe with the bun.

@LCC611 Yeah I feel you! With it being in a bun you can still have slicked down edges and it not sweat out, or at least immediatelySmiley winking

@Nikita I go to a natural hair salon sometimes and they told me that if you don't straighten your hair often, it is more likely to revert back to curls the first few times that you get it straightened. I don't know how true this is, but...

@Nikita You can check out Latia Hardrick at *****.********@********.***. I went to high school with her and although I haven't had her do my hair before, her work is very nice. She works in Arlington, TX though. Hope you find someone!

I am facing the same dilemma. I am natural and I would love to wear my hair naturally either in curls or side bun, but I plan to go on my honeymoon soon after so I'm thinking a sew in would be better. I wouldn't have to worry about doing my hair on a daily basis and keeping up the maintenance...I guess when the day gets closer, I'll make a decision.

I LOVE this post! The pics are really pretty for style ideas too! I was often thinking of growing my relaxer out but then I got engaged, LOL! So I think I'm going to wait now til after wedding-too much going on right now to focus on my hair. I definitely want braids for honeymoon. Never had a sew-in, but it sounds great for transitioning and options for your wedding day Tamar. Let us know what you decide.

@DoriL. Yes girl transitioning from relaxed to natural definitely takes time, patience, and great attention. I would wait until the wedding is over to transition if I were you too. But I will definitely let you all know what I decide. I'm honestly leaning more towards sew-in though.

I'm loving this thread!!! I have very thick, long natural hair and I wanted something durable, beautiful and something that looked believable for the wedding. I decided on a natural looking sew in. It was curled and pinned up for the ceremony and down in a sultry ponytail for the reception. I was able to get the hair wet during the honey moon! I loved it! It curled up just like my natural hair so I didn't have to worry about styling it during my honey moon. I would do some some research and find out which hair blends well with your natural hair. There a lot of "natural" hair extension companies out there that sells lovely hair!

Oh yea!! Sooo for my lingerie party in April and my bachelorette party in June, I went to my stylist to have my natural hair professionally straighten...my curls did NOT revert back! I washed it several times to get my curls back and they were too gone! So for about a month I had really curly hair to my shoulders and bone straight hair from my shoulders to my bra strap...It was like I was transitioning again! I was so sad! So after researching what the heck the stylist did to my hair, I found out she had not used heat protector on my natural hair which broke the curl pattern. Needless to say, I had to cut my hair back to shoulder length. So if you do decided to have it professionally straighten PLEASE remind the stylist several times to us heat protector before and after styling!

Heeeey to all my fellow natuaralista's! I am 100% natural and wear protective styles 90% of the time. For my wedding I will definitely be getting a sew-in. I want to be worry free about my hair for the entire weekend! I do not want to risk dealing with my hair swelling up before I get down the aisle, lol.

Yes to sew-ins for transitioning!!! That's how I did it. Also... I don't like compromising my workouts for my hair... so it was a perfect option.

As far as sweating before the wedding... literally, I sweat like a man and I live in Houston. My hair has been straightened numerous times and Houston humidity wasn't able to shake it! It took me getting a super intense workout in before it turned... but that's just me... and I'm getting married inside (because I sweat like a man :-) ). So... lots of options!

I am natural and I ended up putting in a full head weave and got it styled... I've been natural for 2.5 years now.... Getting a weave was the easiest thing for me to do and I found out it's also considered a protective hairstyle as well.

I kept my hair styled for the wedding and would keep the weave in for the honeymoon at well (we leave on Monday Sept 1st). I spoke with a few ppl who where weaves and they pretty much it'll be better to have the weave in then to have my natural hair out and washing it everyday while we're in DR (I'll let u know how it worksout once we get back).

You can kindof see my hair in this pic. She basically dropped curled it and pinned it up in like a bun (I got my hair done the night before and she picked a style that I wouldn't mess up while sleeping).

I left the top part of my hair out bc I'm not a fan of having a closure (this is only the 2nd weave I had in my entire life - had my first weave for HS prom). The style I had for the wedding def could of lasted a week.

I couldn't do a natural hairstyle with my hair bc the wedding was outside and I was afraid of it poofing up and not lasting throughout the reception.

My hair is natural and I always wear it short and curly (1st pic), primarily b/c I workout 6 days a week and I love that I have zero maintenance! I'm letting it grow out for the wedding but not 100% sure what style. I'm currently letting it grow into a "mohawk" (2nd pic) just to see if what it would look like. I won't be wearing it like this for the wedding but I think it's so cute and funky for every day! I LOVE playing with my natural hair.

@ Tamar I also go to a natural hair salon and it is true, if your hair is use to be curly, some strands might resist being straight. Or when I got from having it straight to trying to do a twist out my ends would resist getting curly and I'll have to put rods at the end of my hair to curl it. It happens to me and I go back and forth btwn wearing a twist out, the crinkly look (washing hair at night, braiding it wet and taking out the corn braids in the morning) and wearing it straight.

I got my hair straighten the morning of my bridal shower and by that afternoon when the bridal shower started my hair dropped. I def couldn't do a high bun and expect that to last throughout the reception.

This girl who got married a year ago wore her hair in a nice braided up style. It actually looked nice, but wasn't a route I wanted to go with for my wedding. Good luck, girl!
