I have NATURAL Hair

Tamar, on August 25, 2014 at 11:41 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 38

Are there any brides with natural Afro hair (i.e. no relaxer or chemically processed hair)? If so, how are you wearing your hair for your wedding day? I know I want mine straightened, possibly with a natural looking sew-in and styled with pin curls and/or finger waves, but I'm having trouble deciding because I want my hair to look nice and last for that entire week of the wedding since we have multiple events to attend/host. Not to mention the honeymoon. What are you all doing?

I'm not natural but I understand the struggle lol. I'm doing a sew in on my head for the wedding. I would recommend it because you know it's easy to maintain than your own hair. I'm also doing pin curls. Something soft and elegant. Make sure you take into consideration if you sweat, does your hair curl back up and stuff because I would have for that to happen! Lol. Either way I'm sure you will look stunning girl! =)

I have natural hair, but I wear it blown out 95 percent of the time. However, for the wedding day I'm going to get a sew-in with loose curls, probably the same length as my hair so it looks natural. I have a lot of events that week too, and since we are going to Mexico, I don't want to be worried about my hair since I won't be taking my stylist with me. lol. I think a sew-in would be stress free!

My hair is naturally curly and pouffy. It's the Spanish and West Indian roots in me! But, I'm getting it bone straight for my wedding. I can't wait.

I'm still trying to decide! I'm letting it grow for the wedding, but the transition period of always a struggle for me. I'm already thinking about cutting it! I won't straighten it or get weave for the wedding though. I don't want it to be too drastic from how I normally wear it. Good post!

I was thinking about the same thing. My hair is natural and my ceremony will take place outdoors. I had planned on straightening it and adding some curls but I'm afraid I'll look like a puffy mess before I even get to the reception. Getting a sew-in is an option but my FH doesn't like weave :-( Hopefully I figure something out before then

My current plan (it has changed many times) is to wear my hair straight for the events leading up to the wedding and then for the wedding add some soft curls (my hair looks better when it is a little dirty), but the sew-in is sounding really good right now Smiley smile

I'm 100% natural. I got a sew-in done. I only had my perimeter left out. I sweated my balls off the day/night of the wedding and the curls fell out but it still looked good. I took the weave out last night because we leave for our honeymoon on Sat. Lots of swimming and I would rather wear a curly bun than have to worry about keeping a weave together.

@SweetestLeslie yeah I think I will get a sew-in because I completely forgot about sweating my hair out, yikes!

@FutureMrsDean yeah I'm trying to grow mine out as well. Are you doing anything special to it? If you start straightening your hair now it won't be drastic. And there are some talented stylists out there who can do some natural looking sew-ins...

I'm with Alyssa. I'm rocking my natural afro! lol! Seriously, I love my natural hair and it's just so ME. I've seen so many really cool natural hairstyles that I like. I'm trying to stay patient and grow into one of the styles I like by the wedding.

I'm natural too, and how I will wear mine depends on whether I can find a stylist that day who is a reasonable distance from me... Yay New England -_- But I'm really liking this:

FH prefers my hair natural which is great, because I HATE getting it done. I wear it natural during the summer and 2 weeks each month during fall, winter and spring. However, starting next summer, I will start straightening it weekly to get it "trained" by December. We are not leaving for our honeymoon (Turks & Caicos) for 2 weeks after the wedding, so a friend (as a gift) will braid my hair. FH loves this one:

@DesertOasis that looks nice! And @BunnyLove I really like that. I was thinking of getting braids for our honeymoon too because they're so easy. I just need to figure out how I would wash it if I get in chlorine. Huh, so many things to think about.

Great post! I'm going natural too, since sept 2013, so I'm half way there... No big chop for me. But I have been getting it blown out weekly and I think I will loose my virginity on my wedding week and finally do a sew in, after reading all of your posts. I usually do clip ins if I wear weave, which is VERY seldom. I'm not sure how hard I'm going to be sweating out my hair that week so I'm not sure clip ins will bode well. I'm also thinking about box braids for the (crossing my fingers) surprise Hawaii honeymoon. Lol! but anyway do any of you have a great hair stylist that you could recommend for a sew in..Dallas area?

I've been natural for a while and always wear my hair curly poof. I have a good grade of hair and water is my friend as it helps is curl tighter. For the wedding I will have it blown out and pinned up some how. Humidity and water are NOT my friends then. I've never had weave done nor am I interested because when my scalp itches I'm ready to wash no matter how many times a week it gets washed.

I'm natural!!! five years in the game!

But I'm one of those that straightens my hair annually. It will be straight for the wedding. I working on getting bra strap length hair... I'm about 2 inches away! So... I want to see if I can get there before the big day!

Style wise... I'm gonna have jessica rabbit hair for the wedding... and for the reception, I'll get it off my neck and pinned to one side... so curls falling down over one shoulder. Get it?!

I don't care if my hair hold up after the wedding. I want it to revert back quickly. For the honey moon, it'll be back to it's natural state... which is good so i can roll in the sand and not think about how I'll get it out of a sew-in.
