I hate guest books! (And I'm tired of making decisions)

Shellyq7, on June 2, 2014 at 9:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 50

Ok, I feel like I'm losing it. Part of me just wants to go to Michaels and buy a $10.00 guest book. BUT, I know I will never look at it. My mom wants me to create a print off of Minted, but they are SO expensive and I can't see myself displaying it on my wall forever.

So, I'm trying to find something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and I came across some people that had guests sign blocks or hearts that you sew into a quilt later. My grandma taught my Mom how to quilt and my Mom taught me, so I thought it was perfect. Well, fiancé just stared at me when I told him, and my Mom told me I had lost my mind.

So, ten dollar Michaels book it is?!

I bought a blank canvas and put 2 large state stickers in the middle. He is from Washington and I'm from Oregon. Then we put a heart over where the wedding will be. People will sign around the edges. I think it cost $30 total. Another wedding I went to they bought a frame with the matter area in white. They put their pic in the Middler and everyone signed the white mat part. It would be the cost of the frame and of printing the pic. Good luck picking something!

I love the quilt idea! I kept the guest book from my first wedding. I looked at it once and never looked at it again for the 16.5 years we were married. The guest book will not be a big thing at my second wedding for this reason. Although we only had 13 people at my first, maybe that had something to do with it not being neat to look at lol

That's definitely what I think will happen. I like the quilt idea, but it is more work later on. Sigh. The picture ideas are easy though!

I'm on the fence about this. To me, as long as you show up, you've already sent your best wishes. I'm going with the $10 Micheal's book and if anyone writes in it? more power to them. Obviously I will read it. Maybe take it out at our 10 and 20 year anniversaries.

We had a guest book and a quilt at our wedding. The quilt was a hit!

We are doing the quilt guest book. I love the idea, and as long as you know how to quilt - go for it!

I got a free photo book from shutterfly so i will be using that, i used our e pictures but also left a lot of white space for people to sign. i figured since it was like a photo album we will probably look at it more.

I forgot that I did find one idea I like. Here's a link to 7 alternative guest books...

I think I'm going to do the calendar one.

If you don't care then don't bother. I'm like you, I wouldn't look at the guestbook again, nor would I want to hang up a print/picture/post forever, and I don't like any of those other 'guestbook' ideas.

I'm just skipping it all together. Most everyone will give me a card anyways, and that's what cards are for.

Why not skip it altogether? Seriously, are you going to want a guest book as a keepsake?

I saw a picture today of a guest book "bench". Like a small bench you can put in your foyer. I thought that was so cute

Haha my guestbook dilemma went exactly like yours including FH looking at me like I'm crazy when I suggested guests signing jenga pieces. Lmao. In the end I went with the shutterfly guestbook because I remembered I had a coupon but even if I hadn't had one the book was only going to be $30. I love it cuz its not as boring as a generic guestbook with just signatures but its not too out there like signing jenga pieces or rocks lol

I am actually doing a guest book quilt! My mom is an avid quilter so I thought it would be a nice way for her to contribute to the wedding. Plus its something unique that you can totally get use out of in the future!

I found a wooden monogram on Etsy that is our carved initials. It was only $30 and it's 24"x24". some light sanding and a base coat, then our guests can sign it. We'll clear coat it and hang it on a prominent wall in our Home.

I'm doing a fingerprint tree. I asked my mom how many times she had looked at her guest book in the 32 years she and my dad have been married. The answer? ONE!

I am putting that sucker on my wall!
