I hate bustles, what do I do!?

Emily, on May 22, 2016 at 5:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

So this week I'm going for my first fitting... I believe my seamstress is ready to construct the bustle but I'm just now realizing I HATE bustles!! And I don't think my train is long enough for a wrist strap. I don't know what to do... My dress is an all lace, simple, fit and flare/mermaid style (see photo)

Please any advice is so appreciate and needed! Should I cut off the train?

Thank you!

Then don't bustle ... Your train isn't that long.. You should be fine without it.

Honestly, I thought I hated them, too, ESPECIALLY after looking at pictures online, but I had my first fitting yesterday and when the seamstress pinned it to show me the bustle she recommended, it was actually quite pretty. So I'd say ask your seamstress if she can pin it just to show you -- and ask her to show you a couple options. If you still hate it, I agree with PP - you don't necessarily need one with a short train!

Meant to include a pic so you can see! This is just pinned for effect - the final version will be neater than this. I actually like it a lot! You can see how she pinned it to match where the "flare" is on the fit-and-flare. If it's not for you, don't get pressured! But I was def surprised by how much I was into it once I saw it.

I wasn't a big fan either but my seamstress showed me a bustle on my dress that blends in perfectly. Talk to your seamstress and see if she can show you your options. Otherwise your other option is no bustle but then you risk the train of your dress getting ruined.

She should be able to just flip the train under and have snaps or ribbons ready to hold it that way for the reception, so it will look like the train was cut off but you'll still have the train for the ceremony.

I know someone who didn't bustle her dress the entire night and hers was longer than that. I remember thinking it was kind of odd it wasn't bustled or held up by her arm at all bc it got in the way of her dancing and got really dirty fast. I'm sure yours will be fine down though since it isn't as long. Do whatever you want!

I decided to cut mine off for this reason. I didn't want it dragging, and I hate the look of a bustle.

How important is the train for you op?

I had a hard time too for the same reasons. My seamstress is just doing an under bustle and I loved that look.

I would not cut your train!!! Maybe the hustle won't be as bad as you think. Take a look at it and discuss with your seamstress. There are tons of different options when bustling.

Consider a ballroom bustle. It comes under the dress so it doesn't look like a traditional bustle.

I don't think you need to bustle that. You have a beautiful dress

Try and under bustle. I had a 4 point under bustle. Just enough to get it off the ground but not enough to ruin the look of it. If you don't like how she pins it, like PP said, skip it!

    Left bustle, right no bustle

Google a train flip. This is what I'm doing as I don't like the look of bustles either.

I'm not bustling. I don't like them much either. No dancing though, and a short reception. I'm not worried!

I'm so happy I asked for advice! I'm going to go into my appointment with an open mind and see how it will look bustled under. I hope it works! Yay! Thank you everyone!

Do the bustle. People will be stepping on it and dancing is tough if you don't! I wanted my bustle left a little longer. It got stepped on and by 10:00 most of the points were broken.
