i don't like my wedding dress! Help!

Maddi, on March 20, 2018 at 4:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

I bought my dress when i went home to visit my family in my hometown in NY, about 3 months ago. It just arrived and the more i look at pictures of myself in it, the more i regret it. I had 6 people with me when i went to try on dresses, including my future MIL and i felt a lot of pressure to listen to everyones opinions and find a dress that day, since future MIL came up from Florida just to be there for the occasion.

I was thinking of just wearing it for the ceremony to please everyone, and finding another dress for the reception, but if i don't like the dress now, I'm sure my disdain for it will get worse as it gets closer to the day, HELP!

If I were you, I would find a dress that pleases you. You may want to out that on for the reception, or just be honest and find one that you truely love. It's your wedding and it should be everything you dreamed of!

Any photos? If it is in your budget go for another dress, I know you want to please everyone but if you hate it that much don’t wear it. You might find after dress shopping again you do like it, or put it one when you have your hair and make up trial. Good luck!!

Thank you! I'm struggling with it having straps, and the material seems to bunch in really weird places, i don't know if this sounds silly but it isn't the dress i've dreamed of getting married in since i was younger.

I think the dress is beautiful! However my suggestion would be, hang on to it while you look elsewhere. If you find a different one, buy it and sell this one. But if you don’t find a different one you love more then you still have this one

Sleeves are awesome cause you won't be pulling your dress up all night, and if you feel like things are bunching in weird places the seamstress might be able to help with that.

But it's all based on what your comfortable with. I wouldn't toss it out just because it wasn't what you dreamed of when you were a kid. We grow up, we mature, and that dress definitely suits you.

I think your dress is gorgeous! But if you honestly don’t feel like you could see yourself walking down the aisle in that dress then I would go looking again. Maybe try dress shopping alone so you don’t feel pressured to buy what others like

OMG the back of that dress is incredible! I think you look amazing. What don't you like about it?

That’s a great idea! I hadn’t thought of that for some reason honestly, maybe because I feel guilty for not LOVING it as much as my mom and Nana do, but I’m sure they’d be devastated if I told them I didn’t like it.

Good idea! Maybe I’ll go here in Seattle alone and see if anything speaks to me more than this dress(which honestly wouldn’t be too hard) and if not then maybe I’ll learn to like this one, thank you!

Has it been altered yet? If it hasn't then the bunching will most likely change. If it has been altered, did you ask your seamstress why it was doing that?
Personally I love your dress on you. It looks super flattering and unique. If you don't feel confident in that dress then you probably should look for another dress to wear during the reception. But if it just isn't what you envisioned then I wouldn't get a new dress just based on that.

Holy Toledo. You look gorgeous in that dress. I often have similar feelings about my dress because it is NOT what I imagined but I remember slipping it on and being able to imagine my FH reacting to seeing me in that dress for the first time and then I remember why I fell in love with it. I'm having to have a corset added to my dress because I've gained weight and I've never liked corset dresses on me. I get your feelings. I would talk to a seamstress about the bunching before making up your mind one way or the other. If you're not in love with it, you should find a dress you are in love with. But i think you look stunning in the dress. Absolutely breath taking. Just my humble opinion.

It hasn’t been altered yet! I plan on meeting with the seamstress the next time I’m in NY in August, but I don’t want to alter it if I still don’t like it, it’s such a catch-22! Thank you ❤️

All I know is that the combination of your tattoo and the detailing on the back of the dress is WOW! Smiley heart

Honestly, they may be more devastated if you wore it just to make them happy.

This is YOUR dress. THE Dress. The only wedding dress you, with any luck, will ever wear. So wear something YOU love.

With all that said, I think you look stunning in your dress. Alterations will probably take care of any weird bunching. Adding sleeves will also help to 'stabilize' the dress too. But I suggest going to a few bridal boutiques on your own first to see if there is something out there you really like more.

The only reason I brought it up is because I tried on a dress I thought fit perfectly without any alterations. But the seamstress showed me like 6 small things that would have changed the fit in a positive way greatly. Like you said it is a catch-22. What I would do is deeply consider what it is you don't like. If it's the bunching and those things then I would get it altered because it makes all the difference. If it is something deeper than that then get a different dress. Hope that helps!
