I dont like buttercream of Fondant

We went to our cake tasting. We decided on a marble cake with a chocolate mousse filling. I attached a picture of a style of cake I like. I hate fondant and I find buttercream to greasy. Are there any other options?

Find a baker that doesn't use shortening as the base for their buttercream! When they use shortening it CAN make buttercream taste greasy, but I promise you there are bakers out there who have found other ways to make it, like my baker. Her buttercream is so fluffy, light, and delicious!

If you like white chocolate get them to do modeling chocolate and they can just dye it whatever color. It's so good!

You've heard a lot of this but a GOOD buttercream should be amazing and not at all greasy! Am I going for a non-traditional cake, cheesecake. Because, why not!

Are you tied to this baker? Buttercream should not be greasy.

There are also many different varieties of buttercream - american buttercream (much thicker and sweeter with higher sugar content), flour/ermine buttercream (lighter and less sweet with a more subtle flavor), German buttercream (custard based - light and soft with a unique flavor), French buttercream is similar -- then the last two, Italian and Swiss, which are meringue based.

I absolutely knew we didnt want American buttercream - it tends to be overly sweet, thick, and gritty IME. So we went to the local wedding expo at the outer banks and tried everything there. We chose a baker who uses ermine buttercream, whipped cream icing, and white chocolate mousse ganache. All three were amazing.

I highly recommend trying some other bakers, or asking yours if she is familiar with the other types of buttercream.

Unfortunately I have a choice between two because its included in my contract with my venue. I don't like the owner of one of the bakery's . I think I will order a small cake from the bakery with buttercream and the marble cake and see how it is. I don't think he put enough icing on the cake pieces so I don't think I really tasted it.

Though I did try the buttercream at the first bakery and I thought it was greasy. So maybe I am just scarred and assume any buttercream will be greasy.

If it's greasy, it's not made correctly. Did you try the actual buttercream they would be using? Also, there is a swiss meringue buttercream is made with egg whites and isn't like american buttercream.

ETA: agreed with others, if they use butter based and not shortening, it won't be greasy. Or if they do a mixture between the two.

You could get a glazed cake, this is what I'm thinking of doing because I hate fondant and buttercream too! Plus frosting gives me a stomach ache.

Ooo that looks so good. The baker gave me a spoon with the frosting. I have no idea if that what what they would be using or if he whipped it up quick. I think I will give the buttercream from the baker I went to over the weekend a chance. Ill order a small "birthday cake" that is the same as my wedding cake and see how it is.
