I dont like buttercream of Fondant

Patricia, on March 28, 2016 at 4:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

We went to our cake tasting. We decided on a marble cake with a chocolate mousse filling. I attached a picture of a style of cake I like. I hate fondant and I find buttercream to greasy. Are there any other options?

We used cream cheese. Our baker wouldn't do it in warm months since it can melt more easily during transport, but it was cool enough that day to do it.

Talk with your baker. You could do whipped cream, cream cheese (which granted, has a buttercream base). If you're negotiable on the design of your cake, you could go with one of those 'naked cakes' to reduce the amount of frosting.

Cream cheese? What about a white chocolate frosting?

Different bakeries can make their buttercream different then others. So my only suggestion would be to try some other bakeries frosting and see if you like the taste of theirs. I know people are doing a bare cake which I think still has buttercream just not as much.

Naked cake or whip cream (very light) frosting

I don't think I've ever had a greasy buttercream. Depending on where you live and temperature in September you may be able to do cream cheese. However, a lot of bakers suggest against it bc it melts easily in warm temperatures.

I do love naked cakes but I am a frosting fan. My fiancé would absolutely kill me if I brought it up ahha. Maybe we can do a whip cream frosting. I wonder if that holds up well in heat. probably not. I will have to talk to them and see if I can try different frostings. He made it seem like buttercream was the one and only option

Me either! Luckily, I love the idea of a nude cake. With this i can just wipe off any excess. love it!

Yes Rebecca. Thank you for correcting my spelling mistake. My fault for not checking before posing. I will have to try the marshmallow fondant.

Whipped cream frosting or cream cheese if it will be cool enough. Marshmallow fondant is also a decent option!

Definitely do tastings at multiple bakeries - they will have different frosting recipes with very different textures.

I don't mind buttercream, but my aunt's bakery makes the most amazing rum-flavored whipped frosting, and their ganache is awesome too. I would shop around, do some more tastings if you're not satisfied. There are enough options out there to find something you like, you just have to find it.

The bakery I work at gets people frequently who hate Buttercream. They try ours and love it. Different places make different things. Tasting is the way to go

We are having our wedding out doors in July and they told us we needed to go with a buttercream because of this. The whipped frosting or a mousse would definitely be risking a "cake-tastrophy." If you really don't want all of that buttercream I would say go with the naked cake and at least you won't have as much.

I would try their buttercream before dismissing it. Different bakers make their icing different ways

Whipped? I think this is a better question for your baker.
