I can't find a dress anywhere!!

Kristen, on June 6, 2011 at 5:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Okay so I have been searching online and in and out of bridal shops for 2 months now and I can't find anything I like. I know I want something long and with straps. Not really low cut. I would also love it if it had some red in it. But that is not a necessity. Does anyone have any ideas of where else I can look? I am getting so discouragedSmiley sad Oh and I would like to stay around the 500-600 range. Thanks!

Have you found anything close that could be altered by adding red trim and/or straps?

Kind of....I am going to give it another shot at DB and try on some that I could add the red to. It's just so hard for me to find something that will give a lot of support b/c I am top heavy.

Keep in mind, you can find a nice long-line bra that will offer the support.

    Have you tried halter-style?

    A couple other tips-

A corset gown can be your best friend money-wise because it usually means less alterations.

Additional embellishments like a broach and/or a sash can be an inexpensive way to add pizzazz to a plain, simple dress. (Don't buy from the bridal shop though- way expensive)

Don't forget Craigs List! You can find dresses that have never been worn for cheap because the bride changed her mind or cancelled the wedding or got pregnant. You could get a $800 gown for $300 and still have room in your budget for alterations.

Well I actually did try on a strapless and it looked okay but my "ladies" weren't held up like I would have liked. @Keatha I will check out craigs list. Thanks!

This might sound weird, but try prom dress shops. I wanted a certain type of dress, and I ended up finding mine at the prom dress shop I got my senior ball gown from years ago. And it was cheap too - only $270. Also, look through bridal magazines and rip out pictures. Even if you don't like the whole dress, rip it out if you like the neckline, the straps, the length, etc., and circle what you like about it. It will help narrow your search when you go shopping.

Have you thought about a local seamstress who could make the gown in your mind? I did that once with a dress I needed for an event. Our event colors were royal blue and silver. I drew the dress I wanted and a friend of mine, who was a wiz with a sewing machine, made the dress for me.

Mind you, these photos were taken in 1990, at least I did not have big 80's hair! LOL!
