I am wondering how much does it cost to perserve a wedding gown?

Darlene, on September 18, 2012 at 11:15 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I am debating if it is worth it and where would I go to get my gown perserved?

Check with your local dry cleaners and/or bridal salons.

There's a few companies you can mail it into. I got my kit through David's Bridal for $99 and paid an extra $50 for hand washing and an upgrade to the packaging. I was a little nervous about it, but it came out nice.

I’m spent $300 for my wedding dress and $150 for my reception dress.

So much that mine is still hanging in the closet in its original bag.

My first wedding gown did exactly that - hang in the closet until I donated it.

My local dry cleaners does preservations and theirs cost only $65.00. I was going to look into that afterwards.

SpicyDeene, can I send you my dress pretty please?!?!?

I was quoted up to $800. Mind you, my gown isn't particularly dirty or complicated in any way.

Mrs. S.: I shoud have done the same. Now I have these massive boxes sitting in my guestroom taking up space. I tried selling them but no takers. DH is going to stash them in the attic after he renos the space. Your cleaners are on crack. What special processing are they using for that. I went with an eco-friendly place and my gowns were crazy complicated and I didn't get any quotes in that range.

Those who had them cleaned through DB, did you buy your dress there?

I've never had a great experience with the company in general but maybe I would try their preservation.

I kind of want to sell my dress. But I feel guilty about it. Like I should keep it for posterity and like I'll regret it in 30 years or something. As if any future women in our family would want to wear it!!!! Can't see that happening.

My veil is a family heirloom, definitely preserving that.....but the dress?....IDK.

I was going to do a TTD session but since my grandmother passed (it was her gift to me for our wedding) I can't being myself to do that anymore. Guess I gotta start checking with my local cleaners/Davids

Andrene, I also thought they were on crack. Or something stronger.

What kills me is that some of those places have "a 100 year warranty". I AM NOT GOING TO LAST FOR ANOTHER 100 YEARS!!!! Why in the world should my wedding dress?!?!? It's not like I'm princess D so that it should really be preserved forever.

    100 year warranty??!???

You live in DC, right? Maybe they market to the daughters of heads of state who might actually have their dress in a museum someday?

    That's crazy.

I guess :-( Granted, 800 was the highest quote I got, but I still thought it was plain insane.

Mrs. S: Have you checked placed in VA or MD? They may be a bit cheaper than DC.
