Hurricane Harvey disappointment

Venting.... I'm so disappointed. My wedding is 23 days away and I called venue (Brady's Landing) this morning to confirm final details. However, I was told due to tropical storm Harvey the venue was flooded/damaged and will be closed for approximately 6 months for repairs. No refund until 6-8 weeks....bad part is they've known this for a week. They didn't call me. If I wouldn't have called today to confirm final details I probably still wouldn't know this. I was so ready for this day and now it's not happening. Ive waited so long for this day. Feelings are hurt.

    @kayla c. The day is very significant to us. Due to us not getting a refund in time we unfortunately won't be able to find a venue we can afford in 3 weeks.

    I'm sorry to hear your day will be postponed. I've heard about getting wedding insurance but I haven't looked into it much. Big big hug.

    Thanks everyone. Trying to remain positive because we are blessed. We are grateful we didn't lose our necessities such as our home or vehicles like many people we know. But we are definitely heartbroken.

    Could you pull permits in time to have a park wedding, weather permitting, and have the reception at a family members or friends house? That way you can keep your date.

    @Sondra D. We are planning to think of some alternatives tomorrow and hopefully confirm something by the end of the weekend. Today was just not a good day and I couldn't think. Thank you kindly for the suggestion.

    I'm so sorry, that's really disappointing.

    Read your venue contract, see if there's anything in there about what happens in the event they have to cancel.

    There is no excuse from them to hold your money for 6-8 weeks. I would demand it be given back ASAP so you can find a change of venue. I would tell them you will pick it over the weekend.
