Hubbys Tungsten Wedding Band...HELP i think I destoryed it

Kirst, on November 15, 2013 at 1:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

So my hubbys band has been looking GRIMMY lately...he is an environmental drilled so he's outside working with his hands, he wears gloves, so I doubt he came in contact with any chemicals. But this ring looks so cloudy and gross. I swear it didnt look this way when we got it....anyway I put it in my jewelry cleaner (NOT THINKING) for a few minutes & then scrubbed it and washed it, well it looks the same if not worse....I think the chemicals in the cleaner may have hurt the tungsten more. I can't find any photo examples of what a chemical reaction to tungsten would look like...and if i can be fixed. Anyone know of anything to help me out? I'm going to set it in warm soapy water for a while now, and see if it helps...

I dropped it at the jewl store to see if it could be polished, they sent it out and I just picked it up during lunch, they said no it cant be polished. But they also didnt say it looks destroyed or anything...so idk

If anything, you can buy him a new one. I bought FH a tungsten promise ring for $19.99 off of Amazon. He mentioned that he wanted a ring to wear since I had one so I bought him this ring! I was skeptical about the quality, since it was so cheap and from Amazon but I was VERY surprised! Or you could just Google how to clean a tungsten ring.

If you cant get it to clean up, you could always look into stainless steel bands. Theyre extremely durable and dont get discolored. Plus they dont shatter if you drop them

I don't recommend TC rings. They're also incredibly easy to shatter, which wouldn't be such a problem, except they're billed as so durable. My fiance loves his titanium engagement band.

When we said stuff about it shattering, we were referring to the fact that if you drop a tungsten ring, it will shatter like its made of ceramic. Id just get another one, try etsy for some nice designs

FH wears a tungsten band while at work, a rice mill. His seems to be pretty durable including everyday work, & when the dogs attacked the package and tore it apart and we found it on the ground it was still in pristine condition. He does take it off to bathe and wash his hanfs though. His was $35 from Walmart, well a company though walmart. It looks like a tire lol. If it doesnt bother him no worries or get another.

Rubbing alchohol and then slowly turn it on your fingure. Repeat until the soap fog has evaporated and the tungsten has resealed to the epoxy coating completely. I had to do that with my wife and my matching rings. We dropped ours in the dryer on accedent and the epoxy coating got foggy.
