How to word RSVP follow ups?

bubbles, on May 9, 2016 at 7:40 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I have about 40 people who haven't responded (it's a week past the deadline). I'm trying to find the nicest way possible to write them messages asking if they know whether they are coming?

I'd call them. That way you don't have to worry about tone in the message you send. Just politely ask if they plan on attending so you can give the venue your final numbers.

"Hi there! We are getting ready to submit final numbers for the wedding and I haven't received a reply from you, just checking to see if you'll be attending?" Anything along those lines is fine. Be polite, but also somewhat enforcive because they need to understand that they have to give you a straight answer.

Agree w/pp. Call or text. I had to do this with about 20-30 guests. Most people don't mind.

I recently had to do this, too. I just said "I wanted to check in and make sure you received your invitation. RSVPs were due X day and I haven't received one from you yet." Simple and to the point. I added a few exclamation points and smiley faces, too. Haha

Edit: Make sure not to sound accusatory. Some inviations and RSVPs may get lost in the mail! Your guest may have sent their response the day they got it, but things happen and it may have gotten lost.

Time to let the venue know our numbers. We are looking forward to celebrating with everyone so we hope you can make it. It wouldn't be the same without you but we understand there are sometimes circumstances beyond our control. Please e mail us at your soonest but please by xxx date so that we can make sure there is plenty to eat and drink for everyone!

Bubbles. If people say maybe, just politely inform them that you have to give numbers to your caterer by tomorrow, and so if they can't give you an answer by tonight you will not be including them in your head count.

Rsvp for a wedding is standard. If they cannot follow social protocols...they can't come!
