How to Survive a Ball Gown

Loganne, on August 9, 2017 at 5:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35

Sorry for the posts 2 days in a row, but after storing my dress since November I finally tried it on again, and it fit, but it was pretty snug... so it's definitely time to watch what I eat!

Anyway... after only being in it for 10 minutes, I was a little itchy in the chest area and sweating everywhere else. Any tips to help make the dress a little more comfortable the day of? I already changed my mind about a petticoat; I do not need any more tulle!

Umm at one point I stepped outside and aired myself out, but then I just got drunk and didn't care. Why is it itchy? That's something you need to figure out and fix asap. My dress had beading every where and wasn't itchy.

    Love your dress!!!

I would suggest the same as PP - Spanx helps. I wore a super uncomfortable bridesmaid dress once and it found that it helped a lot. I am a fan of spanx.

I have a silver threading on my ballgown that my seamstress said is what's irritating my chest area at the seams and there's really nothing I can do about it.

My thighs got pretty sweaty during my alterations appointment so that's going to be fun. I do have a petticoat. Sorry I had to make it smaller to be able to upload it.

Ah yes, Spanx! I forgot I wore a pair when I was trying on dresses! I think it's itchy in the bust area because I haven't figured out what to wear. I don't have enough room for a bra. I'm also sweaty because it's 100 degrees today and hopefully it won't be that hot in October.

I actually have these weird shorts from Target that go under dresses to stop the chub rub. Help with sweating too, and they go pretty far down your thighs so that might help with the itching?

May way moleskin or something can be attached to the top so it covers the seam thats itchy? Or maybe some Vaseline though you'd need to reapply

Baby powder! Helps the sweat and coats your skin.

@bemyguest those shorts are LIFE. I almost never used to wear skirts or dresses (thanks, chub rub) until I found those. I totally wore them on my wedding day, as I didn't need shape wear, but I knew I would be sweaty and didn't need burning thighs to top it off. The ones I have are wicking too, and keep thing pretty cool down there.

Now I always wear dresses and skirts, hah!

Man, I don't have any advice for you but I just wanted to say that dress is gorgeous. Is that from DB? It's so simple and elegant. Well done on your choice. Also, are you wearing a petticoat in your picture because if not yeah you don't need one at all.

Thank you everyone. @Tricia yes that is DB! It's White by Vera Wang. I'll be wearing it without the sash because of the shape of the bodice. I believe in this picture I do have a petticoat on, but it is still pretty full without it. The petticoat did make my butt look bigger though. Haha!

Try a hoop skirt I love mine. I wanted my dress even bigger so I added some tulle on top

Definitely check with your seamstress. I had a ball gown with 7 layers of tulle and a lace bodice with sleeves and buttons up the back. No itch, despite 90 degrees in NC humid summer. There could be something in the fabric causing it.

Cool tip in case you haven't heard it - in a ball gown, it helps to go to the bathroom backwards facing the wall. That's what I did, I held up the front of the dress and bridesmaids/loved ones help up the train. It worked great!
