How to store a wedding dress for a year?!

Joni, on September 20, 2013 at 10:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hi Ladies,

I went to Davids Bridal and bought a dress - but I didn't think it would come in in a month! So now I'm left with a dress that needs to be stored for a year - any advice on how to stop it from turning yellow and what not?! going to keep it at my dads, (I have two cats) and he has a dog, but I know that he's a very clean person and my dress will be good there. How did you store your wedding dress? I'm

Edited for my own stupidity: You probably don't have to worry, because as long as it's in a dry, cool area, you should be fine. Now that I think about it, I stored a wedding dress in my closet for ten years just in it's bridal bag and it didn't yellow at all.

I would suggest asking DB what they recommend since you'll be storing it for awhile.

I've had to store mine for several months (obviously not as long as you will be) and left it in the fabric/cloth dress bag with the zipper unzipped. It was hanging in a closet, but there wasn't really any other clothes in there, so it wasn't getting smashed.

I would suggest the bag's DB tries and sells you when you get your dress.

It is a breathable fabric which doesn't turn the fabric yellow.

I've store my old wedding dress in my closet for 7 years now and it's still as diamond white as the day i bought it and put it there...

I kept mine in the box it shipped in. Bought it July of last year and have taken it out a few times. No issues

DB sold me their bag for $10 so my dress will be in there in the closet until 2015!

My mom laid mine between white cotton sheets under her bed. IDK.

Mine will be stored in a breathable fabric bag inside of a cedar closet with my grandmother's and great-grandmother's furs. It shouldn't be in until March or April, so it'll only be stored for 3-4 months.

I stored mine flat in a muslin bag I got from foster stephens, but they said any breathable garment and non-plastic bag should be fine; just be sure to keep it in your closet or a dark and cool room. You can also wrap it in cotton sheets too.

Only advice I can give is don't have it in direct sunlight. That will definitely yellow the fabric

You need a non-plastic breathable bag number one. I got mine at Davids for $10 with the purchase of my dress. It's been a year, and the dress still looks exactly the same.

Make sure it's in a cool dark place, it doesn't get handled much, or exposed to the sun too often, and the temp in the closet/room doesn't change drastically (like it does in a shed-don't put your dress in a shed)

I've already had my dress for close to a year and obviously still have a whole to go. I got mine from DB and just stored it in a closet in the bag you can buy from them. It's still in the exact same condition that I got it in.

Like alot of the ladies have mentioned DB sells garmet bags for $10. My consultant also recommended to wrap a white sheet around it before putting it in the garmet bag.

I also have my dress and will be storing it for a year. I agree with the other ladies about a fabric garment bag. One other thing they say is to not store it on a fabric hanger.

I have had my dress for a year, and I stored mine in the dress bag, in a garment packing box and put it in the back of the closet...sealed up tight.
