How to set a wedding time

Lindsey, on December 28, 2019 at 12:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
I am trying to plan all the times out for our ceremony and reception which are 30 min apart from each other. The sun sets at 5:30 (keeping pictures in mind) and we are having a first look. The ceremony space gives me a 4 hour time frame. I thought of booking 2:30-6:30, take pics at 4:30 and the ceremony at 5:30. They suggested this time frame in order to pack up our belongings after a 30 min ceremony. Then, cocktail hour from 6:30-7:30 and the reception from 7:30-11:30. I was told this might be too late. Im trying to think of what would be best when considering golden hour for pics, an appropriate time for the ceremony, the reception and drive time. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

Do you plan on having any photos after the ceremony? Cocktail hour is normally used for photos.

I agree with pp. if you are taking pictures before the cocktail hour will just add more time on. You may save money skipping it and just moving straight into the reception. However, some people do use this time for mingling with their guests. 11:30 is a little late in my opinion but I would Base it on how far I traveled to get there. If I drove an hour I might leave earlier.

What are your guests supposed to be doing during the half hour while you pack up the ceremony site?

I would ask your photographer about photography timing. They will know what lighting will work best for them based on the sunset. Then set your schedule around that.

Why are you packing up after your ceremony? Someone should do that for you... You'll be busy taking pictures or mingling with guests if you choose to take all photos before the ceremony.

I'd try to end your reception by 11:00 p.m. at the latest.
