How to pin in a tiara?

Meghan, on November 18, 2016 at 3:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 11

I got this beautiful tiara for $12 off ebay but I have to idea how to actually pin it in my hair. My friend is going to do my hair and makeup foe my wedding. Any thoughts on how to pin this in? The metal is pretty thick and I don't know that booby pins would hold the loops in. There's no comb either.

Can you glue or sew it to a comb? Most craft stores sell them!

I'm thinking about that. It's not flexible at all so not like other tiaras I've seen. There's also these gigantic loops at the side I assume they're to help hold it on I just don't know with what. I'm not trying to sound stupid, the metal I'd too thick for most bobby pins

I wore one to one of my proms, but it had a small, integrated (metal) comb, on either end.

Can you use bobby pins in the loops? Will that make it stable enough? It looks like they're made for ribbons but I'm not sure how it would look to tie a tiara to your head Smiley smile

I thought they were ribbon loops too! It looks crazy!

Ya, it does look like those are ribbon loops that you would then tie the ribbon under your hair. I saw a few pieces like that when I was looking for something. I also agree that you can get some small combs to glue onto it to help secure it in your hair.

Stick some u-pins/bun pins/bobby pins through those loops and tuck it under some hair. That's what I ended up doing for my flower crown.

The holes are for hairpins, not bobby pins (which would loosen easily with the weight) or ribbon (though it could also be used). Someone with experience using hairpins can get it to stay all day easily. She should practice putting it in your hair.

My own crown had the same issues and was very heavy so regular bobby pins almost didn't do the trick but you also need to consider how it sits on your head.

I've been taught that women try and wear them too low. To measure where it should sit, make an 'L' with your pointer finger and thumb. Then put your thumb on your chin, and pointer finger in between your eyebrow line. Now place your thumb where your pointer finger sat, and let your pointer finger now rest on top of your head. That's the spot your tiara should sit at. When I did this, my tiara, despite the weight, say perfectly and didn't budge even with just extra long bobby pins. Though the proper U pins or hair pins are ideal.
