How to manage bad ibs for wedding?

Nicole, on June 21, 2019 at 5:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
I've been blessed with chronic IBS with awful cramping and bathroom time. I take pepto as needed but sometimes nothing helps when I'm really sick. What do you all recommend? I cannot get sick with that dress on... it's like 12 dresses put together haha. Also dont suggest imodium. I was instructed not to take it unless I have D several times and that's not the case

I think that's a question you may need to ask your DR. See if there is something he can give you. I know you definitely do not want to be sick on your big day. Good luck!!

I agree with the first poster. I would talk to the doctor as they could give you a better advice. I wish you all the best!

My mom has the same issue. It helps her to avoid any trigger foods and she uses Digize essential oil every day too.

There's a wedding slip that's designed to cinch the dress up to make the toilet an easier activity, I forget it's name but you could probably look into that incase.
Overall avoiding trigger foods is the reccomended advice other than that you'd need to consult your GI Specialist over it.

Would a low FODMAP diet maybe help? Foods high in FODMAPs really set my belly off. Onions seem to be the biggest culprit.

I also have IBS an five been closely following the keto diet and its help tremendously. I’ve also heard that activated charcoal can help (not to be used frequently). I haven’t tried it out yet but am thinking to give it a try since I’d like to eat what I want the day of my wedding lol

Change up your diet. As the poster above said, low FODMAP is the way to go. The reason keto also works is that it cuts out the same foods and then some. Generally things to cut out are: grains (including rice in some cases, though low FODMAP allows for it), corn, starches, dairy products like milk and cream (hard cheeses and yogurt are okay), refined sugars and food/drink high in sugar content. If that seems too overwhelming to think about, look at it this way: eat protein and veggies Smiley smile . That's the only thing that has worked for my IBS over the years. You don't have to necessarily stick with it after the wedding (it can be a difficult diet to maintain) but if you want to make sure you're good the day of, this I highly recommend you do and you start as soon as possible or at the least maybe 2 months before the wedding (it takes a while for the stomach to settle).

Sucks I know, but truly after years and years of this, diet is the one surefire way to feel better with IBS.

(all the above is easily google-able, so just type in FODMAP or diet for IBS or diet for good intestinal health and you'll be good Smiley smile )
