How to make my spring wedding dress work for fall?

Jessica, on April 7, 2020 at 5:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hi all, with all the lovely changes happening in the world lately, my fiancé and decided to postpone our June 6th wedding in Ohio to late October. Problem is, I bought a sleeveless wedding dress perfect for spring. My question is, how should I go about preparing to be warm in late October in the fall? Should I order an overcoat of some kind? Leggings? I'm not quite sure how to tackle this and I'm definitely not going to be shopping for a new wedding dress. Thanks in advance everyone, I'd love to hear any ideas.

I live in NJ our temperatures change throughout the day.

So a typical October in Ohio gets about how chilly? Your wedding is mostly inside correct?

They have lace over-shirt things. You might also be in luck and have warmer weather like last year. You could wear opaque tights if your shoes are closed toed. I have also seen wearing a custom jean jacket over the dress or a leather jacket. That was pretty cute. After pictures of course.

Nope, unfortunately. It's covered, but exposed to the outside and we'll have space heaters. It would have been fine for June, but not for October. 😔 But it was our only option if we wanted to get married this year.

I hope we're going to have warm weather! But I love the custom jean jacket, that's a really neat idea! Our venue is very rustic, so that might fit in. 😊

I’m wearing a strapless dress in October and I’m getting a bolero to stay warm during the pictures. There’s tons on Google and Etsy.

I worry about the same in Chicago. I was thinking of having some wrap. But I think under will be warm anyway with all of my skirt. But check out Etsy.

Our wedding was in October in Massachusetts. I wore a strapless dress, and was quite warm enough. I had a longline bra, Spanx, and a crinoline under it, plus the dress itself had several layers. It was surprisingly warm. I'd try it on with all your accessories, and see whether it really needs anything added.

You could choose a heavier lace veil or a show that has a pop of fall color like navy or maroon

Yup, Etsy is where I'm headed. I think things will start shipping back to normal in a few weeks. Chicago is probably about the same weather as Northern Ohio. My dress is very light and there's almost no under-layers! If it's cold, I'm going to freeze, lol. Definitely not planned for an October wedding!

My dress only has three layers total and is very light, so I'm definitely worried. One of the reasons I loved it was because it was so light. I also tend to be cold all the time (though maybe NOT on my wedding day due to the stress, haha), so I'm just not sure how to plan. Smiley sad I didn't think about how my Spanx might warm me up, though, that's a good thought! I'm also thinking maybe I'll get some lace-y white leggings and have them at the venue if I start to really freeze.

Yes, I'm definitely thinking about going that route. I had already decided on a veil, but it wasn't expensive, so I could replace it. I also didn't think adding a colored shawl! That's a great idea as well, thank you!! Smiley smile
