how to make my hair thicker

elizabeth, on June 29, 2011 at 12:06 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

My hair is really thin and curly so my hair gets really tangled and breaks a lot. I'm letting my hair grow for the wedding but I want to make it thicker. Any ideas?

My sister has used the shampoo and conditioner Nioxin to thicken, and really likes it. I use Bumble & Bumble thickening shampoo/conditioner...it doesn't actually make the hair thicker, but it certainly looks that way.

If the reason it's hard to grow is that it breaks a lot, you should invest in a good leave-in conditioner, it would probably help the damage.

If you just want your hair thicker/longer for the wedding, you can use clip-in extentions. Some are really good (just make sure it's real hair!), and they're not too expensive.

You can try castor oil. You'd lightly oil your scalp at night and then wash it out in the morning. Every other night helps. I use it, but because of the dryness and texture of my hair I keep the oil in. I've seen and heard of it used on lots of textures, ethnicities and hair types.

I have alopecia. When I was younger my hair was so thick that I would have to have it thinned out. As I got older, my hair starting falling out to the point that my hair is visibly thin. It is something that I am completely self consious about especially since I had the bipolor opposite condition earlier in my life. I have been to several doctors and have tried so many different treatments. Nixon helps by preventing ti from falling out but thats all it does. For me, I have reallly curly course hair and Nixon really dried my hair out, though now they have more of a selection of products. Most products out there will help with the prevention of losing hair but nothing will really make your hair grow thicker, trust me! There are some doctor perscribed pills that do work temporarily, but you got to stay on them. If your hair is falling out, then try some of these products, if its not falling out but just thin, try styling products that add volume and/or root boosters.

Taking vitamins is also beneficial. Nioxin hair vitamins are really good, also take fatty acids and biotin.

They make a vitamin called hair, skin & nails. It's only about $8 a bottle, but you have to take them. Also, it will probably take about 3-4 months before you see any sort of change to your hair. The old hair will continue to do as it has been doing but it is the new hair that has been vitamin enriched and will be the healthier hair. Just remeber, just like any other "treatment" once you stop taking the vitamin, you lose the benefit.

Buy some clip-in extensions (REMY brand) through ebay. I bought a whole set of different sizes that way for only $60. It normally costs $200-300 for an entire set of hair. With bobby pins, teasing, and lots of hairspray, your hair can be as full as you want and as long as you want for your wedding and any other time you want to wear them.

Also the hair/nail/skin vitamin - also known as Biotin - doesn't work. You get the same results just by drinking lots of water every day.

As a hairstylist... every person here is right.... Nioxin is really great it works good, only thing is, nothing is going to really make you hair thicker... its all going to promote new growth is all, extentions really will make your hair a bit thicker...for obvious reasons. for the tangles, try It's A 10 Keratin. i use it every day even tho i have thick hair, my hairs curly so i like to keep it nice lol... curly hair has a lack of moisture in it, i wont get into all the boring details about it all but yea, you have options, but you can't permanently make your hair ticker

I take 5000 mcg biotin. It makes your hair grow faster and healthier and it seems to be more full. My hair used to break alot too and I started using redken anti snap, I swear by that stuff and it smells nice too.

I'm in love with clip-in extensions. I'm growing my hair out for my wedding (it's now about an inch past my chin), but I'll be adding extensions as well. Like Kerri said, make sure that you purchase REAL hair extensions; you can cut, color and style them as you please.

Biotin is good. But for your wedding I'd just go with adding some extensions to make it full. I'm actually having a wig made just because I don't feel like dealing with my own hair which frizzes and flops and has thinned. My mom is a hair dresser and can take weave and put it on a cap and create a very, very natural looking hairstyle that I just put on for the wedding and once we leave I cn take it off and just wear my natural curly hair for our honeymoon.

I have really thin fine hair and love the Nioxin products. The scalp treatment really gives a lot of volume... A stylist told me that the more of their products you use together, the better it works. Not sure if it is true, but for what it's worth....

Since nothing is going to help as much as I want it to (sigh) I will be getting extensions for the wedding. I can't wait to have hair!! Smiley smile

Add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to your shampoo and conditioner!
