I kept mine at my in-law's house because we lived in a 1 bedroom apartment with only 2 closets (bedroom and coat closet). So I just didn't have the space to store my dress.

I kept my in our bedroom closet and I trusted my husband not to look at it.

My mom held onto my dress until the wedding day.

I actually dropped mine off with my seamstress as soon as it came in! We waited to do any fittings until closer to the wedding, but I was able to store it with her at bo extra cost! Now that we're a week out, it's in our house I'm a garment bag, and I just tucked it in the guest room closet.

Hannah, I like that one. It gives a fun task to the future in-laws. Did they get a look at it at that point?

    Veronica,

That makes for a little challenge. Like keeping presents for kids where they know where they are.

Alisha -- that's our most natural place I think.

Very nice of the seamstress to keep it. If it is a heavy dress, all the better.

You can leave it in an opaque cloth garment bag (plastic chokes/ yellows natural fabric) and place it flat under your bed. Laying it out is better than leaving on a hanger which can pull on straps, etc.

Thanks Michelle, those are some good ideas. But my cat likes it under the bed too, so maybe always good.

I just bundled it up and left it in my home office closet. He knew not to look at it as he wanted to be surprised.

Mine is in a box in our closet. My fiancé isn't interested in seeing it before the wedding, so I know he won't peak.

Does he ask about it or just totally patient?

Most of the time he forgots it's there- it's in the shipping box on the top shelf, so very out of sight out of mind, but he hasn't been tempted. He also knows I want him to see it for the first time on the wedding day, so even if he was tempted to look he wouldn't. It's not like hiding a child's birthday presents- we're adults with mural respect and trust

I put mine in a breathable garment bag and laid it flat on the top shelf of my closet. You don’t even see it up there, so it is definitely out of sight, and out of the way. Plus, most places recommend you store your dress flat rather than hang them, as hanging for long periods of time can stretch out the material. And storing it on a high shelf in the closet keeps it completely away from sunlight and any chance of accidents, things getting spilled on it, etc.

Yep it is. Even though my did say he would not have looked if I kept my dress home, the curiosity would have gotten the best of him and he would have looked. I’m glad that I did keep it at my mom’s house because he was shocked on our wedding day

Sounds like you got your dress in plenty of time ahead of the wedding. Some of those same recommendations are given for dance costumes. So, it makes sense what was recommended to you about the wedding dresses.

His mom was with me when I picked the dress (along with my mom and 2 of my bridal party ladies). She offered to let me store it with them since she had plenty of closet space (it was actually in my husband's childhood bedroom lol). I think she showed it to my father-in-law. I know he saw the pictures, but I'm not sure if he unzipped the bag and looked at the actual thing, or cared to.

Yes that is sort of predictive or cute having it in his childhood bedroom. I wasn't thinking of your father in law trying to see it. I don't think he would have had curiosity like your husband could of had --even if your husband would not have been inclined to look.
