I am getting married towards the end of August and I need advice with how to keep cool! I know that the same date a year before was 97 degrees so I want to prepare for hot weather. I have a long dress that has 3 layers and our cocktail hour and photos will all be outside. Any tips for how to stay cool? A co-worker mentioned to me to use the icy-hot stuff but just the icy part. Thanks in advance!

Okay, so first of all I am completed disguisted with the amount of rude replies. Yes, I know how icy hot works but there are in fact products out there called cooling gels which provide only the cooling sensation, I simply dropped the brand name people know for the reason that someone may be able to recommend one to me. I did not realize people would get so worked up over that detail. As far as my guests I am very considerate, the cocktail hour is indoor and outdoor. It's doesn't even begin to later and is on a river, all completely shaded, so it should be cooler. Last year it happened to be 97 degrees on the date, which was very unusual, this year it could be much cooler. I did not think it was necessary to provide all of these details, I simply was curious if anyone used some sort of cooling product, a co worker had mentioned that you can get a cooling product to put on your neck and back of your legs to keep your body temperature cool.

I might consider lil canopy tents. That way guests can find shaded areas to keep cool. They also make cooling packs that curl around the back of yer neck. These are wonderful.

Op, we can only gauge our responses on what you give us.

Giving people the bare minimum will never get you the responses you want. We can't read your mind.

Are you providing that product to your guests? August outdoors anywhere is too hot.

    Heavy dress

    Hot weather

    Stress

    Stress

    Stress

= disaster sweaty armpits. Possible bad mood.

Imho. I would have considered the date with the weather.

    Goodluck.

Ick at the number of brides who hold outdoor weddings in the summer and then come here and ask how they can stay cool. No consideration for your guests. Such rude hosting. And BS on your last post.

Mary we were responding to your concern which is for an extremely hot day how do you stay cool. Well, for an extremely hot day you should not have cocktail hour outside because it really isn't healthy and people will complain. I'm not sure where you're from but I'm a teacher in NJ and we've had to close school for hot days in the past because the air quality was not good. Also most people relate icy hot to the menthol cream... that's just a fact and yes, people will think that's funny. Laugh a little and don't get so offended. Sometimes it does take a little additional explanation. No biggie.

"Last year it happened to be 97 degrees on the date, which was very unusual, this year it could be much cooler."

Yeah....and it could also happen to be 97 degrees again this year. Then what? Can all your guests share a tube of your cooling gel? LOL

You said ICY HOT. Everyone's reaction is based on that. If you didn't mean that, you should have been more specific. Shade or not 97 degrees is hot. I would not attend a wedding with any part of it outside in that kinda weather. I have very sensitive skin.

I'm with orchids, I'm extremely heat intolerant and would pass out, and more than likely ruin your ceremony. I live in South Florida, and it's brutal out during the summer, we try to do minimal things outside or do it super early AM, or after 5pm but it's still hot.

Icy hot would drive me crazy and make me hotter, the menthol, from my experience wouldn't keep me cool at all.

The only part of the day that is outdoors is the cocktail hour which is both inside and outside. Guests will be able to judge for themselves where they would like to spend that time. I was only interested if anyone had a tip for being cool, such as the cooling gel, which I would gladly pass along to guests. I have worked over 100 weddings as a waitress, with plenty of them during the summer and especially in August, so I figured someone else may have done the same and had a piece of advice. But I do appreciate some of the tips I have received.

OK...if 97 is the temp & it can't/won't be moved indoors:

    * find shade

    * 'fan' type programs for guests

    * hoop slip instead of crinoline slip - supposed to be cooler

    * for dinner, some women have a fan place under the table

I jokingly told my FH that I'm using one of these magnetic tent fans & attach it to my slip of my hoop slip! His face was priceless : )

UO: This is fine. Her guests will survive cocktail hour. They have an option to be inside or outside so if it's super hot everyone will just stay inside. This is not a big deal.

Yea that's not how icy hot works, and it's for like muscle pain relief, not temperature control. Is there any way to set up fans outside at very least? I don't think even that is gonna be enough. That is very HOT. People drinking alcohol in 97 degree weather is DANGEROUS, think

dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, etc. If this is a must, make SURE bottled water is readily available.

@HisBeauty thank you for the link, very helpful!

Just to clarify again, the cocktail hour is both indoor and outdoor. If someone does not want to go outside, they will not have to at all, every other aspect of the day is completely inside. Also, the part of the outdoor cocktail hour is completely shaded and located on the river so it is cooler.

Will the doors remain open between the inside and outside spots? If so, then that really won't keep inside cool at all. Can the inside hold the guests comfortably??

You're welcome, still, that's incredibly hot to have anything outside.

Can you get a large outdoor a/c? Check with the event and equipment rental services in your area. That and a fast photographer are all the good advice I've got. When setting our date, we purposely skipped the summer months as an option. When it's 90 - 100 degrees, it's hard to do anything, much less take bridal photos outside.

I've lived in the South my entire life. It's hot here. People are not stupid. If she has indoor/ outdoor and shaded options, lots of ice water available, people will not drop like flies. I highly doubt she comes from a family of Eskimos who has never experienced heat. Additionally, the guests will dress for the weather. Our bride evidently did not select her dress based on that, so I say take pics quick, and use a cold neck wrap that's been kept in a freezer or Ice chest, if you need it.
