How to handle.....trash at the reception....?

Bee, on April 30, 2013 at 1:34 PM Posted in Planning 1 13

My FH says, "I have the perfect solution for trash, dont you worry about it" Next day I say, "So, what is your solution to trash removal?" He says, "We tie trash bags around trees outside and everyone can go outside to throw trash out. .......... :-i

So ladies, what do you think we should do? Have trash cans inside the room? The reason it is a concern to me is because we have beer bottles, tea bottles, soda cans and water bottles, not just dinner trash to clean up. And I REALLY want to recycle because recycling is important to me. Should I do a regular house-sized trash can and a recycle next to it? Inside? On the balcony? On the front patio? Do I put recycle sign on the one so people recycle cans etc? Here is the recepton area. Balcony is to the left of that and then the front. Thanks

I would have a few set up, maybe 2 receptacles (because you specified recycling is important to you; excellent I agree!) on the balcony and 4 inside, 2 grouped together on either ends of the buffet tables (I gathered it was buffet but may not be, sorry). Hope my opinion helps a little. Smiley laugh

Can such bins be rented? I have no idea, but I imagine someone does it.

I second having a few. You don't want people to bottle neck on the trash/recycling.

Your venue is gorgeous!!! Are you doing your own catering? If no, your caterer should have a solution in place.

Otherwise, I would do trash cans inside near the doorway to the balcony.

    Maybe something like this:

with one marked for garbage and one for recycling? And get the covers if possible!

You can rent trash cans and recycling cans. The amount you will need is going to depend on the amount of people you are planning to have. I would strongly suggest placing everything in the same area people are eating. People are most likely already going to assume someone will be cleaning up after them so if they don't see a trash around they are just going to leave it on the table.

Thanks ladies, I will look into this. I dont want trash everywhere and I cringe at the idea of throwing recycling to the land fill, eck! What about these white ones from Walmart? What if I get two of these for trash, then use something else for recycle? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-13.2-Gallon-Swing-Top-Trash-Can/17011382 We will have someone there who can monitor and take out trash, do you think two would be enough for regular trash? and one this size for recycle? or one regular trash and one for recycle (since it is mostly recyclable material)

Definitely inside...I wouldnt expect ppl to walk outside or on a balcony just to throw trash away. Just make a little announcement and let ppl know to recycle!

Does the venue not offer any kind of trash cans? How many guests are you having? You are going to have to buy a million of those little cans to have enough trash space for a large wedding.

Have a few...you can buy pop up recycle stands (at like a Party City we use them for tailgating) they are blue and have the recycle symbol on them. I believe you should put them inside. Good luck and a beautiful venue!
