How to find a Justice of the Peace in California

We want to get married by a JP, who we heard is cheap. How do I go about finding one?

Go under a WW search for officiant in your area...that should give you the most listings.

None of them were JPs though. These people all charge a ton!

I'm just going to have my brother officiant the ceremony. You can get certified for a day through the county or you can do the Universal Church of Life. CA is pretty easy as to who officiates the ceremony.

Google!!! I was told that JP's don't leave the court house for weddings (at least in PA) so if you're going to do it at the court house I think its a great cost effective way of getting married!

In Calif., are you able to get married at the courthouse? If so, that would probably be the least expensive way.

They're not done at the courthouses in CA anymore, but at the county clerk's office.

I used to work for judges at a courthouse so I just realized I can use one of them to do my ceremony if I don't want to use one of the clergy at my church (you have to take a 7 week class to use one of them and its a mega church so I don't have a relationship with any of them).

Denise, in Fla. the Clerk of the County Court's office IS in the county courthouse and the couple has to go there anyway to get the marriage license.

Apparently in some states you can get married at City Hall.

Call the local county clerks office. They may have a list of those who work outside vendors.

There is no Justice of the Peace system in either LA county or CA, for that matter. Please see this blog - http://blog.theclergynetwork.com/2011/02/los-angeles-justice-of-peace-civil.html

You can get married where you get your marriage license, usually they have a small room for that and it is done by a county clerk. Otherwise, as others have suggested, you can search for officiants in your area who can perform a civil ceremony.
