How to communicate tastefully "don't bring random dates please."

We want to limit the number of people that attend the wedding. We want to let people know that they are welcome to bring a guest but not feel obligated too. Essentially, we don't want people bringing "random dates" but we want to communicate this tastefully.

I agree, you cant say who if its a +1. You can address it to Joe Clark ans Jane Doe, but Joe Clark and guest means he can bring whoever.. We are really limiting our +1s there are only maybe three people who get it, and thats just because they won't know anyone else. We are even restricting unmarried cousins from bringing their s/o. There is just no room.
