How to choose between two photographers

Cavan, on May 19, 2011 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

My FH and I met with a few photographers and have narrowed the list down to two. I don't know how to choose from here.

Both photographers take great photos although one is a little bit better. So you'd think I'd go with him, right? His photos were great but when we met I felt that I was leading the meeting and had more ideas than him, I had to ask about thank-you cards and storybook albums as opposed to him offering them to me. The other photographer's photos were not as wonderful but was very personable and organized and seems to really know her way around a wedding. She answered my questions before I could even ask them.

They both cost roughly the same amount with the better photo photographer being a couple hundred dollars more (but still within my budget). How do I choose between the two? My FH feels the same way I do and says the choice is up to me.

How did you choose?

My venue had some suggestions, but I did my research. I looked for the ones that were in my budget, checked out their portfolios, and I emailed them for a little bit trying to get a feel for them. I also met with them, to see in person what they were like, how they talked about their profession if they enjoyed doing this.

Tricky!! Do you like the photos of the more organized photographer? Ask yourself "will I regret not using the unorganized photographer 5 years from now when I'm going through my album?" If you like the photos and style or the organized photographer then go with her. You don't want to be directing the photog around the day of your wedding, you'll have enough to think about.

The photographer with the better photos might be simply taking your lead. If the person was simply being a good listener, it might be better to go there.

Many top-notch photojournalist photographers do not automatically offer prints and albums. Or they might be automatically included in packages, which is why discussing them seems redundant.

But if you think you like or need more direction with photos on the day-of, then go with the other photographer.

Very true Kimberly, I do not want to be directing the photographer. And upon further reflection, I think the more personable photographer will help us to be more comfortable which would make better photos. Neither my FH or I are very sociable people and tend to be quite anxious around others so it would be to our great benefit if we have someone that can get us out of our shells a bit and I think she can do that.

Perfect, well I think you've made your decision Smiley smile Now go book her! I'm sure she'll do a great job and if she'll help put you at ease on the wedding day it's a total bonus.
