How to ask a friend from out of state to be a groomsmen?

Rebecca, on October 11, 2016 at 2:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

So FH and I have been been trying to find the best way to ask his friend to be a groomsmen. We ordered glasses off etsy to ask everyone if they would be apart of our bridal party. We also bought them some form of alcohol to go with the glass. We hand delivered everyone's to them except his friend. He does not live in the state. So we are trying to come up with a good/appropriate way to ask. FH wants to just send it to him through the mail so it's a big surprise but I'm worried it won't make it or the glass will break. I thought about video chatting him and then giving it to him when he comes to town. My mom said just text or call him and save it for when he comes to town. What does everyone think would be the best way to ask? Any other ideas of how to ask?

FH called his out of town friend to ask him. which is what this same friend did when he asked FH to stand up in his wedding. plus now that he has asked him they can set up time when he comes in to visit to check out tuxes.

I think calling him is your best bet and just give him the gift the next time you see him.

Is he coming to town soon? If so you could just wait and ask him then. If he isn't, then just call and ask him.

FH's best friend lives on the other side of Canada. He simply talked to him and asked.

I don't think guys really care as much as some girls do about being asked in a "cool" way. My fiancé just texted his out of state friends and asked and asked the local friends one night when he saw them. It wasn't a big to-do.

Thank you everyone! We were just worried it wouldn't be the right thing to do. But it sounds like calling is the best way.

I agree to call. I called to ask my best friend, who will be a bridesman and also walking me down the aisle, while he was shopping in Petco. We then stayed on the phone while he was paying and I heard him explain to the cashier why he was crying.. it was simple, and pretty hilarious lol Smiley smile

I had to Skype for all of my bridesmaids. My FH also had to Skype for one of his groomsmen (my brother). He sent the beverage to my dad and when he was ready to ask the question had Dad give him his drink.

Thank you for the suggestions. I think we should Skype just so it's like in person. A phone call would work as well. It's really up to FH but I wanted to see if we were doing the right thing.

Call him on the phone. That's what we did for all our bridal party.

If you expect him to travel to your wedding it would be a good gesture for you to drive out and ask him in person.
